In other words, voting only matters if it's the final stage of a sustained campaign to build and mobilize popular power. Without that, voting will get you precious little.

Nirvana: My Unplugged In New York One of the best albums I bought in my late teenage years. RIP Kurt. What a legacy.
A screen capture showing the album art work (front cover) for the Nirvana Album, Unplugged In New York.

Released November 1994, just over 6 months after lead singer Kurt Cobain tragically shot himself.

The front cover features a live photo of the band performing on stage, inset within a squarish hand drawn (?) border within a white frame

"Isn’t it obvious that selfishness on the road changes us as a society? The belief that a driver should be allowed to do whatever they please, regardless of the impact on others, mounts the pavement and travels deep into our lives." Via @georgemonbiot.bsky.social

Driving that’s too fast, too dangerous and utterly lawless: why do we tolerate this petro-masculinity? | George Monbiot
In towns and in the countryside, I see 4x4s and pick up trucks driven without care or conscience. It’s a Magafication of transport, says Guardian columnist George Monbiot

These things are filed in my head under “rank hypocrisy” — take, for instance, then MP Kate Hoey raging against “all cyclists run red lights” and who was later convicted of guess what in her car?
Belfast Telegraph headline: Kate Hoey fined for running red light.

I see there's more Bad Cyclists Discourse again. It's actually a symptom of how broken the UK's road network planning is, but it's easier to complain about what just *nearly* happened to you than to pause for thought about the "why" it nearly happened. The actual real problem is political.

Slowing down well ahead of a red traffic signal, to reach it as it went green rather than driving towards it as fast as I possibly could in order to determine the full stopping power of my brakes and experience some negative G was enough to send a tailgating driver into a fit of rage.

There needs to be a serious clampdown on tailgating drivers. It is a public highway. Not a circuit in the Mario Kart 150cc Cup.

I've had my HiFi in it's current guise for what must be a year now. Just listened to some of Paul Simon's Graceland. On CD. Absolutely, no exaggeration, blown away by the musical arrangement and talent of the musicians. You just don't get that with a Bluetooth speaker or a soundbar.

Why are cars that can far exceed, even the highest speed limit in the country, legal to sell? There was a justifiable outcry to ban the sale of illegal e-bikes. Where is the outcry to ban the sale of cars that can do these excessive speeds?

Last week I had new job induction. Driving safely was a point laboured. On way to work, HR director overtook my car in an inappropriate place as I approached queue of traffic. She ignored 15 mph site limit on arrival. I don't like hypocrisy. I don't like dangerous driving. Words were had.

There's a 'department day' in the office pencilled in for next week. A big chunk of the afternoon has been pencilled out for 'social activities' (scant details so far). I am taking the modern equivalent of a boom box and preparing a play list, 'just in case'. Any suggestions?

We just this past week in the GTA had several pedestrians hit and killed or severely injured by drivers. I want to see the re-education camps for drivers and i want the camps to have solitary boxes where the worst can be sent for weeks at a time, before i see one more PSA about cyclist safety.

Last year a man out jogging hit his head on a low bridge over the canal. He lost consciousness, fell into the canal and drowned. Not one person advocated for jogging helmets following that incident. Yet jogging head injury risks are similar to that of non-competitive cycling.

My question has always been this: If you had a new TV delivered protected by 1.2cm of polystyrene, would you be happy if the delivery guy just pushed it off the back of the truck? What if they then reversed over it? No? Then shut the f up about cycle helmets.

If half as much effort went into tackling bad driving as does berating cyclists for just existing, I would wager on fewer people dying due to traffic violence.

Cars should prominently display the estimated cost of each journey, in a similar manner to the meters in taxis. An algorithm that takes into account deprecation, tyre wear etc. that's good enough to illustrate the point is not beyond the capabilities of the manufacturer's software developers.

You can't advocate for cycling helmets without advocating for car helmets, jogging helmets, or walking up and down stairs helmets. To do so is too massively overstate non-competitive cycling head injury risks. It is also counter-productive. Mandating cycle helmets makes cycling less safe.

I ain't often for naming and shaming, but for this standard of driving I make an exception. Tailgating. Speeding. Using the wrong lane to undertake. Setting off from traffic lights using a tablet. And for all her antics, she gained no advantage. Just wasted fuel. A danger to everyone.

Why I didn't think of this myself? When storing vinyl records, put the anti-static sleeve behind the original outer sleeve in the jacket for easier access + save wearing out the outer sleeve or damaging the original inner sleeve. Picked this tip up from A British Audiophile (YouTube)

Needs to be mandatory for work places with >100 employees to provide showers. And for all work places that provide car parking to provide secure and sheltered cycle parking. Rode the same distance as to work. Only, the cycle parking at work is distant wheel bender bike rack and there's no showers.

We need to stop maintaining economies and built environments that rely on private car travel. I have happily worked from home for the last 7 years. Now I am forced into two hours of driving a day because the competition for what few fully remote jobs that remain is so intense. Why no local jobs?
