This was one of my favorites as a kid.
Far Side cartoon. A fish is upside down, rising tail first to the surface, its feet in white cubes. The caption explains: Embedded in Styrofoam "shoes," Carl is sent to "sleep with the humans."

If you don't have proper eclipse glasses / filters, try a pinhole camera ... When the sun is whole, images will be circles. When partially eclipsed they will be crescents. You can use a colander or even a Ritz Biscuit. Find out more in my book "Up - a scientist's guide to the magic above us"
Ritz biscuit held above a red book. Crescents can be seen in the shadow as the holes work as a pinhole camera.

A lovely little bit of physics that you might have spotted if you ever play with a slinky. We should all play more, because we should all embrace our curiosity. And finding out how the physical world works is fun!

Finally finished @philipcball.bsky.social's wonderful "How Life Works"! When I hit the part on the 2nd Law felt compelled to share my comic on Entropy from a few years back, bits of which I'm expanding on in the new work (& one reason I read this brilliant book!) spinweaveandcut.com/sketching-en...
a single page comic about entropy - how everything tends towards disorder, and those brief moments when things go against that downward flow - specifically life. Opens with linear rod of small rectangular panels on how things get more disordered.

The rest of the page has a much less regimented structure. In the background is a river in black that flows from upper left to lower right end of page. Over it is a spiraling panel structure that has the primary narrative. This begins with a trio of narrow rectangular small vertical panels arranged in descending order. Within them a sequence where a ball falls down stairs. A white arrow stems from the panels and points into the Y of the word yet In large black letters. This moves reading flow across the page to the right side where there are three mirroring vertical panels to the left side except these are arranged in ascending order left to right. Inside them are images of swirls - perhaps a cyclone viewed from space. And then, on the right edge, the panels align with the arm of a spiral of panels. And now we see a sequence depicting swirl of gases to birth of a star, a diagram of new elements forged in its core to star and planet (earth) orbiting. Then swirls of clouds on earth, lightning, rain, water, volcanoes and spiraling to the center: circular panel with caption “swirls keep forming”. Now spiral path reverses from the center to show organic molecules, then dna. Outside the panel path a maple “helicopter” spirals into the panels, to sprout and grow into a tree

This second spiral arm comes out of the center and returns to standard reading order. A river has flowed behind the whole page and in the last panel, a person is seen putting a finger in creating swirls in the water - as life and stars are swirls drawing from entropy's downward stream...

Out of context; I'm drawing a rocket flying into a star and have a version with just inks and a single tone on the rocket and one version with a white line tone applied to what would be the surface of the star, in an attempt to make it feel bright. Any preferences?
a rocket flies toward a star, a speech bubble reads "so beautiful" and a text box read's "musical crescendo"a rocket flies toward a star, a speech bubble reads "so beautiful" and a text box read's "musical crescendo", plus a white line tone has been applied to the surface of the star

Three panel comic. Panel 1: a snail climbs up onto a frisbee laying in the grass. The snail says, “what a strange flower…” Panel 2: the frisbee is lifted off the ground by a person standing outside of the frame. The snail, still perched on the edge of the frisbee, remarks, “eh?” Panel 3: the snails eye stalks are blown backwards as it is suddenly thrusted forward. From the snail’s perspective, it looks like stars stretching radially from the center, as if traveling at warp speed.

Here is a cute comic pointing out typcal chain breaking physics and the the absurdity of Superman often “exploding” chains (which is also similar to how many artists render chains breaking) The comic is by Kerry Callen
SUPER ANTICS #17

6 panel comics featuring Superman and Shazam in classic style.

Panel 1
Superman and Shazam are wrapped in chains

Shazam says

READY...
SET...
GO!

Shazam’s Cain breaks at one link with the brown link warping ion.

Superman’s chains however explode all over the place many links broken, shards of metal flying.

Panel 2
Shazam shows his chain with a single warped link and askes:

HOW DO YOU DO THAT?!
CHAINS BREAK AT THE WEAKEST LINK. THEY DON'T SHATTER!

Panel 3
Superman offers a sheet of paper aaying.

I UNDERSTAND
YOUR FRUSTRATION.
HERE. I'VE WRITTEN DOWN THE SECRET.

Panel 4
Shazam reads the sheet. It says:

Be
Superman

Panel 5

Shazam says
A WISE GUY, EH?

Superman says:
SORRY. I'LL RIP IT UP.

Panel 6
Superman rips the page links anyone might but instead of tearing the paper explodes into shreds of confetti flaying into the air

The comic is sighed Callen.
Theee is a website but my text scraper is not reporting on what it says.

Superman uses a fork to explain higher dimensions — Action Comics #14 (2013) #superman #dccomics
The cover of the New 52 Action Comics #14. Superman hovers in the air as a swarm of beings that look a lot like Angels from Doctor Who descend on him.In four panels, Superman uses a fork to explain what is happening. “In THREE DIMENSIONS this fork is ONE single object, right? But when it interacts with a TWO-DIMENSIONAL surface — like the cover of your JOURNAL, Noah — it leaves FOUR distinct points.” Superman pokes the book with the fork, leaving four points imprinted in the cover. He continues, “The MULTITUDE isn’t a MULTITUDE at all. It’s not a RACE of beings — the multitude is all ONE thing — a single WEAPON with COUNTLESS POINTS aimed at us from a HIGHER, 5th DIMENSION. We have to hit ALL of them at the same time.”
