Heathrow Expansion will mean river corridors dating back to the last Ice Age will be shortened and severely impacted beneath the new runway and taxiways. The only remaining re-routed waterway will be (by necessity) disconnected from landfill-contaminated groundwater and netted.

Thank you Lucy for leading another great Bat Walk last Friday. We had saw lots of bats, including Common & Soprano Pipistrelle, Daubentons, Brown Long Eared, Lesser Horseshoe & Noctule. A magical walk in the dark beside #RuislipLido, particularly enjoyed by the children who came. @Hillingdon

"July was a very hot and dry month across the Hertfordshire and North London area. Only a negligible amount of #rainfall was received during the month and all hydrological units experienced their lowest rainfall totals on record."

If you find yourself in difficulty in water @london-fire.bsky.social advise use of the "float to live" approach. This technique, involves tilting the head back to submerge the ears, and spreading the arms and legs wide, while regaining control of breathing. www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...

While we make the most of the sunny weather, sadly the #heatwave is not ok for UK nature and wildlife: rivers get overheated and flows depleted, pollution even worse than usual. Don’t be tempted to swim where there could be hidden dangers including underwater hazards and pollution.

Sadly the eel population in the Colne has received significantly less attention than other catchments in the Thames River Basin District and is now one of the most at-risk populations nationally due to the proposed Heathrow expansion.
