Today marks the anniversary of the Great Fire of London, one of the most significant events in the capital's history. In the early hours of 2 September 1666, a small fire in a bakery on Pudding Lane sparked a disaster that would rage for four days and transform London forever.
An oil painting depicting the Great Fire of London in 1666, viewed from a boat-filled River Thames. On the left, a massive, towering wall of bright orange and red flames and dark smoke consumes the city, including the silhouette of old St. Paul’s Cathedral. To the right, London Bridge stretches across the river toward a darker, unaffected part of the city. A full, pale moon shines in a dark, hazy blue sky in the upper right, casting a faint reflection on the water. In the foreground, numerous small boats and sailboats, filled with dark silhouettes of people, navigate the calm river, which glows orange from the reflection of the intense fire.

We have deployed four fire engines to provide vital support to Derbyshire Fire and Rescue Service as they battle a major fire on Tintwistle Moor. Our teams from Addington, Heston, Hornsey, and Southall are on the front lines right now.
A person in an LFB red shirt and hat walks across a smoky, charred hillside with sparse vegetation. The sky is clear with a few clouds, and distant hills are visible in the background.A group of eleven firefighters in red shirts and beige pants stand in a row in front of a red and yellow fire truck. The truck has a ladder on top and the website "london-fire.gov.uk" printed on it. The firefighters hold various pieces of equipment, with some wearing hats or sunglasses. They are standing on grass with trees in the background, and the fire truck door has a safety message that reads: "WHEN NOT IN USE, SWITCH IT OFF, UNPLUG IT."

What happens at a road safety day? 🚗 These days are designed to educate members of the public on safer driving. Bexley Blue Watch said that, 'Joint partnership data highlighted that road traffic collisions have become more frequent in recent years especially with young drivers."
