I felt a little bad about not doing my seasonal university press recommendation lists this year, so I decided to go over all the spring and fall catalogs for 2026 to create a list c. 60 books from 32 presses. Hope this is helpful to folks!

I work at a public library. People who want to use AI seem to have no trouble doing so. People who don't want to use AI have a harder time. I crowdsourced and then finalized this document "How to disable or avoid intrusive AI" and then gave it a short URL: notoai.org Please pass along if it's useful
An aircraft passenger oxygen mask: a drop down passenger mask with air bag and yellow plastic mouth and nose cover, oxygen tube has been cut; Demonstration model used by flight attendant crew for passenger instruction. Has text on the side indicating that it's non-functional.

As an MJH diehard I pre-ordered The End of Everything (the signed Blackwell's edition) from the UK, received it in the post, and finished reading it last week. Rest assured: it's got the juice. So pleased it's getting this sort of recognition.

We are asking the WSFS business meeting to extend this story’s eligibility until 2026, because it received extremely limited distribution in 2025. Only 5,000 copies of the print edition were distributed in late 2025, to a primarily non-SFF audience. It became available online on July 9, 2026. 1/2

Idaho pushed anti-trans laws for years. Then a teen died.
The life and death of May Pollard, 16, provides a window into the tragic effect that legislation and political rhetoric have had on trans people in America.

HR 822 requires trusted adults (school employees, counselors, coaches as well as doctors & other health workers) to monitor children for signs of gender stereotype non-conformance and report them. Non-compliance results in steep fines and criminal punishment. This goes into effect in Idaho today.

If we're talking academic field, it's something like Outer Limits, Night Gallery, or Kolchak. If it's based on pure, goofy interest: The Sandbaggers or Spooks/MI-5. I'd also like a crack at LOST.

I'm lucky enough to own a beat up paperback of Survivor and this is a great overview of its significance. My pet theory is that Butler's feelings on Survivor are part of what get in her way re: further Parable novels (due to the space colonialism element of both). Very glad it's getting republished.

I want to jump off this: not disagreeing exactly, because I also want to see a better spread of imprints on the Hugos, but because I've been musing on a few things about the Hugo list and how we frame issues with it. Basically: do we have a Tor problem, or do we have an *everything else* problem?
