There are several interesting things in this paragraph.

Later in the week, I verified that the text exchange had genuinely been with Halligan—or, at least, with Halligan’s phone. I obtained her cell phone number from an independent source and added the number as a contact on my phone. Signal immediately associated the phone number with the “Lindsey Halligan” account with which I had been texting.

Interesting article, and I was struck by the repeated description of one person as “the man with the gold-tipped cane”. I’ve seen this in DC reporting when the reporter has a reason to not identify a person by name, instead using a distinct personal attribute that is obvious to insiders.

This is utter nonsense. We would only have to fly them 12 miles* offshore, not 100. *I acknowledge there is a reasonable argument for 24 miles, and much weaker argument for 200. However, in no circumstances would the distance be 100.
