I have a new one in @404media.co today. I filed public records requests to learn more about some of the challenges student journalists contend with. What I found: admins putting pressure on advisors to censor students for reporting on Epstein and Gaza + spokespeople reporting eic's to campus police.

As much as I like telling lawyers when they're wrong, it's pretty annoying when the context is just that I filed a public records request and they misinterpreted the state statute so badly that it's like a whole other legal sub-practice area. I know we're all wasting each others' time, but come on.

A bit of wisdom I’ve learned as an archivist: Everything is always falling apart. You can’t ever stop it because that’s what matter does. Your job is to slow the process down as much as you can. It’s true with documents, books, and art. And with life too- falling apart is what we do.
