I was beyond lucky (almost missed on it due to a health emergency) this summer to have spent a week learning Critical AI literacy approaches from&with @irisvanrooij.bsky.social @olivia.science & @marentierra.bsky.social now I hope to spread this knowledge further 🙏🏻🥰

As a parent I will never forgive schools for pushing the use of LLM to children. Years of “read to your child” and now “literacy crisis” and “only bad parents give children phones” … .. while the TEACHERS tell the kids”use chat GPT to do your homework” Unforgivably dangerous and irresponsible.

Exactly. Political violence is as 'American' as apple pie and genocidal war

Have these successful cases inhibited the tech industry in any way?

Can anyone cite an example of a successful lawsuit against any US based tech firm, not related to monopoly but harm, that succeeded?

So far worse indeed, which is unsurprising.

Were that true, Microsoft would not have included detailed indemnifying language in the EULA for Copilot (including agents) as I detail at the linked doc: padlet.com/verdigris21/...

End User License Agreements or EULAs provided, as I'm sure you know, the legal framework for indemnifying tech firms from damage done to orgs by the use of their software. The 'AI has feelings' propaganda push is a mutation of this decades old strategem.

It is very easy: GPUs, storage arrays, cooling and power systems are built things. How tiresome western idealism, which flees from a materialist understanding and reality itself, is.

This tendency to commandeer is usually followed by non sequiturs and attempts to teach you what you already know (which can be inferred from the original statement). You: cats are cute. Carbuncle reply: did you know cats have fur?
161
Dwayne Monroe @cloudquistador.eurosky.social · 11/10/2026
After some thought, it occurs to me that 'mansplaining' is the default social media mode for many US people generally and pale skins specifically. One can write: 'cats are cute' and as night follows day, some carbuncle will reply that cats are cute as if your statement doesn't exist

In the case of China, yes, western voyerism which is always wrapped with racist orientalism. In the case of Cambodia, direct CIA culpability. I'm current in China and will have more to say about the Cultural Revo later

Dwayne Monroe @cloudquistador.eurosky.social · 11/10/2026
I don't think any westerner has the right to call out either the Cultural Revolution or the Khmer Rouge. Regarding the former, very few have the knowledge to say anything useful. And regarding Cambodia, Western powers are directly responsible for creating the conditions.

Dwayne Monroe @cloudquistador.eurosky.social · 11/10/2026
Truly. But is this not the nature of settler colonialists and imperialists (and fascism overall)? There is no space allowed for even a hint of resistance. These people are not merely folks with whom we disagree, they are enemies; this is what their behavior indicates

Sigh. Now you're attempting to teach me about how to talk about political economy *and* Vidal. Tiresome.

Dwayne Monroe @cloudquistador.eurosky.social · 10/10/2026
Recently, I re-read one of my favorite essays by Gore Vidal in which he critiques F. Scott Fitzgerald's work. I suppose Vidal could've written this as a series of questions for the reader. That would not have been an essay however, but a quiz. Having and stating one's position is foundational.

With all this in mind, we can define Zitron as a liberal reformer who provides some information about the chaotic financials of the 'AI' industry but whose limited range and allegiance to capital limits the usefulness of his work (not to mention his odiousness).

Losurdo argues and history shows that liberalism, from the start, has accepted and supported colonialism, slavery and genocide. We see this today. So much for liberalism. What then is an actual left position?
1162
Dwayne Monroe @cloudquistador.eurosky.social · 10/10/2026
In the US context and the general western context, 'left' is conflated with liberalism. Domenico Losurdo dissects liberalism in his work, Liberalism, a Counter History archive.org/details/libe...

I understand, but cannot share this frustration, which is born of idealism. US media lied about the invasion of Iraq and lies, to this day, about US supported genocide

Happy Friday! Here's a site I've built because I've been thinking about it & want to see more of it in the world: a space for describing and sharing scholarly skills that I've picked up and nurtured over the years. Also this is a no AI zone in at least two ways: no talking about it and no using it.

As an academic, it feels like some colleagues have lost the ability to engage deeply: they don't want to read an article unless it directly answers a question they already have... basically like using a chatbot they only want an answer to a current issue & not to actually learn anything or explore.

One of the most upsetting things for people trained in formal computational theory, who are not AI boosters, to witness is how claims about the outputs of systems with no formal specification are taken as if they are indicative of formally linked capacities, such as the ability to add; see thread:
