It honeslty just shows me how much rape culture exists. With James Somerton, we all collectively agreed he didn’t deserve a platform anymore, and he disappeared. I've also been reading it myself and it is just. Textually very dense and vague at the same time. I want to pick it apart piece by piece. It has potential to be good! But it needed more time in the oven to cook. It's not even half-baked, it's still liquid in the pan! 😅

There's magic, but it's also set in the future? So it's both sci-fi/fantasy? A character wears a POLO shirt but the style is very fantasy based. The art looks like a fantasy novel?? But it's set in the future in a post-computer era a la Dune???? I am SO confused by this mishmash of genres.

Like, the gov could have been developed to be more evil. Scorpios are hated because they are special, so they have a code that they can't break or they'll be violently killed. But our mc gets away with breaking the code while other scorpios don't. It's "MC is special so she gets away w/everything"

The story of Age of Scorpius would be so much better if it stuck to a specific genre. It feels like it's trying to balance dystopian on top of fantasy and sort-of sci-fi? The way the three genres are mixed doesn't work out. It's dystopian, but there's not enough on how the government = bad.

Just spent about an hour reading the prologue and chapter 1 of Age of Scorpius to @blueirondan.bsky.social and it was a painfully wild ride. I had to stop multiple times to reread paragraphs and he asked to stop because the sentences were also reading aloud bad.
