Technology being everywhere doesn’t mean it belongs everywhere. The tech industry wants us to believe that AI in early education is not only inevitable, but necessary. We don't see it that way. This week, we announced a moratorium on generative AI for public school students in 2-K to 8th grade.

We’re eliminating AI use for students in 2-K through 8th grade for the upcoming school year.

I don't like how this question is written. It leads to the wrong conclusion about what people think. The only options are should the government own the pipelines or the private sector. With no option for no one

People got really angry at me when I wrote this on Mastodon a few years ago, but it's true: post-consumer plastic recycling is functionally a myth, not just in the U.S. but globally. Odds are vanishingly close to zero that your plastic, faithfully put in the recycling bin, will ever be recycled.

Unfortunately, I think it is AI generated. Most things on that account appear to be 😕

Do your research on which e-reader you buy if you want to put library books on it. I recently bought the kindle scribe, not realizing that libby doesnt send books to it from Canadian libraries...only american

There's a good book about this called the anxious generation, that I recommend. Social Media can destroy preteens' confidence and sense of self, its highly addicting to their young brains, and it can cause attention deficit issues. Idk what the solution is, but there is def an issue here to address

When I was a student at UOttawa it used to be a 9 hour train ride to get home to London and a 7hour drive... I would love to still live in Ottawa, but it was too far away from my support network. If we had highspeed rail I could have been in Toronto in 2hours and home in 3.5 🫠

A powerful statement by the Dave Mathews Band on the passing of Dr. Jane Goodall. "Hope is an act of resistance when the world is run by cruelty and greed"

Worth a watch: Head of Signal, Meredith Whittaker, on so-called "agentic AI" and the difference between how it's described in the marketing and what access and control it would actually require to work as advertised.

The capitalist nonsense that one or two adults are responsible for kids 24/7 is one of the greatest lies ever told. These kids need to 1) know lore people and 2) have more time alone in kid world.
