Not the funniest part of this but from a quick Google search it looks like Shake Shack's annual operating expenses are about twice that amount

Unfortunately most of these people don't understand the model for BART to SV so they blame BART for VTA's choices

It depends on the institution but in many cases the fraternity houses are located literally on university land, so they would at least need to relocate. And in most cases I'm sure there's some benefit from university recognition

I think the biggest risk of abolishing greek life would be stopping there and treating campus sexual assault as a solved problem
000
Cliff Bargar @cliffbar.bsky.social · 19h
Yes, banning greek life alone doesn't solve this (e.g. many college sports teams, or other student groups, can have similar hazing rituals), but fraternities are definitely the largest and most extreme source, and imo also have relatively little redeeming value

Exactly - I think it's totally consistent to oppose all ethnostates, but not to oppose just this one

There must be some enterprising legislators in blue or purple states who are now considering taking this on...

Between her endorsements from Pelosi and Schiff and her lack of policy experience, idea that Chan would diverge more from the "Biden blob" than Wiener will is also frankly laughable

Cliff Bargar @cliffbar.bsky.social · 07/10/2026
One person who deserves a lot of credit for not making this a major campaign issue is Chan (in stark contrast to Chakrabarti). And I think the fact that she's so reluctant to make this a differentiator is an indicator of just how little she differs from him in this area.

Most people who look at Wiener's decision to describe the situation in Gaza as "genocide" and call him disingenuous for it had little awareness before 10/7/2023 and haven't taken the time to understand it particularly deeply since then.

Cliff Bargar @cliffbar.bsky.social · 07/10/2026
I don't know about the Beinart interview, that would have been interesting. But I think most people who are criticizing him over this are misunderstanding the issue either willfully or out of ignorance. And meanwhile he has a long track record of taking unpopular stands and moving public opinion

Cliff Bargar @cliffbar.bsky.social · 07/10/2026
You may disagree, but in my experience with organized Jewish life there was a lot of disagreement on whether to consider the situation a "genocide", and I found his evolution on the subject to be very relatable. Seeing how he was treated afterwards is also a strong indication of why he waited.

Cliff Bargar @cliffbar.bsky.social · 07/10/2026
And I think suggesting that Wiener is untrustworthy misses basically his entire record in Sacramento, while Chan has done almost nothing meaningful for working people while at City Hall and less than nothing for public transportation

Cliff Bargar @cliffbar.bsky.social · 07/10/2026
You can just admit that public transportation isn't a motivating issue for you in this election instead of contorting yourself

San Francisco needs a strong transit ally in Congress, not someone who will “hold their nose” when it comes time to advocate for the hundreds of thousands of working people who ride BART, MUNI, and Caltrains every day.

It's fascinating to learn how many more kids die in ATV accidents every year than in e-bike accidents, then observing that there is a moral panic about kids riding e-bikes but not about kids riding ATVs.

There's a way yesterday's failed attempt to frame up Jack Smith for perjury could've been covered as part of the same story — the deadly serious abuse of the DOJ by Republicans to ruin the lives of who they perceive as political opponents — but instead it was like "EMBARRASSING WHOOPSIE"

Here’s Chris Rufo and his podcast co-host addressing “the Indian question,” a reference to “the Jewish question.” That question was whether Jews could be incorporated into European society, and the Nazis were the ones who claimed to have developed the “final solution” to that “problem.”

Why do people act like Scott Wiener is the only one with agency when it comes to housing? We are here (in a housing shortage), because people like Connie Chan have actively resisted new housing and implementing state law! www.sfchronicle.com/politics/art...
"If he's such a champion of housing, why are we here?" Wiener's opponent in the
race, Supervisor Connie Chan, said in a recent interview with the Chronicle. She and Wiener have routinely been on opposing sides of San Francisco's housing policy debates, and she has led some local efforts to resist state legislation he passed.

Absolutely scorching endorsement, bringing serious heat for Weiner and against Chan, but a blast furnace at Pelosi for her role in this race and her true reasons for it. Never read an editorial this heated in Chron www.sfchronicle.com/opinion/edit...

Endorsement: Who should replace Nancy Pelosi in Congress? It’s not even a choice
OPINION: The most intriguing thing about the race between Scott Wiener and Connie Chan to fill Nancy Pelosi’s House seat is that it has become a race at all, the editorial board writes.

it’s genuinely fascinating how establishment democratic politics in big cities has become so ossified and incompetent that they’ve created a huge lane for the left to embrace good government reforms and build a broad coalition of socialists and technocrats

It feels like the instant gratification of social media, and the degree to which your feed is tailored by the algorithms, probably lowers people's resilience in addition to their attention span. And of course AI fits in perfectly to further degrade both of those capacities

Continued proof that Supervisor/Board President Mandelman is more interested in freezing the City in amber than in finding workable solutions for San Franciscans. Moving up the date for 'amnesty' for nonconforming buildings is probably the laziest possible 'solution' to this problem.
