Following my @balhnews.bsky.social blogpost about #scoriabricks, I've heard from David Heath, sending me photos from Drummond Place in Edinburgh. While most of its road surface retains its whin setts, there are scoria bricks lining the edges, carrying the name of the Tees Scoria Brick Co.

Were you to make a Venn diagram of places which both the Uni of York Library, and Fibber's live music venue, have inhabited, Micklegate House would probably be the only place appearing in the overlapping circles... Our collections began life here, while they awaited the building of the Morrell.

We spoke in favour of the new Toppings York bookshop tonight at 1 Museum St, and I'm delighted to say that the Planning Committee voted unanimously against the officer recommendation to refuse it. They have now referred it back for officer approval.
