If you live in California, please join me in calling Gov Newsom at (916) 445-2841 to let him know he’s lost your support and you’ll never vote for a Democrat who doesn’t stand with trans people. If I could make the call while boarding the 105 bus you can do it too.

Of all the things he did, I don't quite know why this one first leapt to mind, other than there's something so cosmically perfect about David Lynch playing John Ford in a Steven Spielberg movie about an experience Spielberg had with Ford that it's like stepping inside a Lynchian fever dream.

Somebody yelled at me for posting about Ganymede instead of /the state of things/ last night. I know we’re (almost) all on the same page here, but a Bluesky without cute cats, science facts, and dumb jokes would be bad for everyone.

Making animated movies into live action: tiresome, unnecessary, lame Re-making every classic film into a muppet movie with a single human actor: sophisticated, erudite, revolutionary

As far as I'm concerned, if keeping your vision for your film under budget requires A.I., you're admitting to the world that you suck at creative problem-solving.

The last TikTok I saw was a compilation using the speech from A Bugs Life where the grasshoppers know that the ants they’re exploiting outnumber than 100 to 1 and the ants need only realize it… Hmmm.

I don't really use TikTok that much, but I find it fascinating that our government is on the verge of banning an app for national security reasons that are still unclear in the same week that Meta, the largest social media company, says it's now fine to hate LGBTQ people and call us mentally ill.

Because I know how easy it is to divide us: I am a transgender woman. Jude’s essay, in which he saliently and explicitly outlines the ways in which cis “allies” use us as shields until we are to be discarded, is excellent and heartrending, and he is a better feminist than any TERF.

Tokyo Godfathers changed me as a person I think bc it appeared when I still was forming my own ideas and thoughts about the world It shows empathy and compassion and reality and warmth all at once, to the kinds of characters not normally given that grace or care on the larger screen!

This was a profound act of cowardice by Disney to appease bigots and erase trans people from media. No doubt they fear being investigated by the Trump administration despite having the 1st amendment.

Dusting the cobwebs off this account after a year to introduce myself to the book side of Bluesky. Hi! I’m AJ, a queer independent author about to release my debut novel, A Series of Rooms. Out Dec 3 🤍 (pre-orders are open!)

Books with similar themes/elements/vibes: Icarus by K. Ancrum, Stars in Your Eyes by Kacen Callender, The Inheritance by Matthew Lopez, Dream Boy by Jim Grimsley, The Sunshine Court by Nora Sakavic, A Little Life by Hanya Yanagihara

Content warnings: Sexual assault, trafficking (by means of coercion/blackmail), physical violence, homophobia (from parents), PTSD, toxic relationship (not between MCs), Depression/anxiety, drug/alcohol use

Synopsis: On the night of his twenty-first birthday, a domino effect of unfortunate events leads Liam Cassidy to a chance encounter with a stranger. What he thinks will be nothing more than a moment of shared refuge in a bar bathroom takes a turn when Liam finds that same stranger waiting in his hotel room that night.
Jonah Prince is just trying to survive another night, same as he has done since his life derailed at seventeen. When his services are requested as a surprise for someone’s birthday, the last person he expects to see is the man from the bar who showed him kindness.
It doesn’t take long in a room together to see the cracks in Jonah’s facade. He’s afraid of someone, even if he can’t say it out loud. Hungry, guarded, and jumping at shadows, it’s clear he is in desperate need of a break, and Liam is in a unique position to grant him one—even if it’s just for a night.
Drawn together by their mutual need for escape, the two of them fall into an arrangement of weekly meetings inside the cheapest hotel rooms Chicago has to offer. The encounters are not sexual in nature, but an unexpected intimacy blossoms between them over time. For Jonah, it’s one night a week of guaranteed safety. For Liam, it’s the first real friendship he has ever known.
But soon, the circumstances that exist outside their private series of rooms begin closing in around them, reminding them that they can’t live in a bubble forever.

Trope arrows: hurt/comfort, slow burn, the horrors of being treated gently for the first time, demisexual rep, trauma & recovery, strangers to friends to more
