For the "pollinators" prompt for #SolarpunkArtAugust I kept thinking about the bees and butterflies who obsess over our sunflowers, so here's a sketch of their flight paths.
A marker sketch of sunflowers, with lines drawing the flight paths of imagined bugs.

I really don't know what I'm doing with "desert solarpunk" as I've never been to a true desert, but I feel like lots of solarpanels giving shade to mitigate the heat seems good, a shaded dome to keep in some moisture might work and a solar oven would be good?? Would love to see what others imagine.
A crayon sketch of solar canopy over a domed house and some desert greenery, cacti around, a bus stop and a solar oven.

For "tropical solarpunk" I feel like an imposter, having been somewhere tropical merely twice in my life, but one of those times was this summer, and this picture is massively influenced by the architecture in Kauai, especially the airport, which had so many areas open to the outside.
A crayon sketch of a covered walkway, bordered by green foliage, with a chicken underfoot, and many red birds flying around, with a long roof of solarpanels on the adjacent part of the building, and an additional covered walkway there.

For "snowy solarpunk" I stayed pretty close to home-- There's a set of quilted curtains we're hoping to get put together to help keep in our heat in the winter nights, and ideally I would have thrown in a bunch of wind turbines. #SolarpunkArtAugust
A drawing of a woman sitting on a couch with her back to us, looking out a large window to the snowy world outside. Thick curtains hang around the window, a quilt on the couch and many plants are arranged either hanging over the window, or on end tables nearby. It is cozy.

#SolarpunkArtAugust "disability rights" Here's a sketch of a solution I'm imagining for a sidewalk near me. There's a giant tree completely destroying the sidewalk in one spot, and I just want there to be a colorful painted path from the driveway before to the driveway after for anyone with wheels.
Sketch of a tree encroaching on the sidewalk, and a path drawn going into the road connecting the driveways before and after the tree, so that the sidewalk gets a little extension.

Yesterday's #SolarPunkArtAugust was "solar ovens" and so I'm sharing a couple of spreads from my handmade collaged book of the Solarpunk manifesto, with solar ovens featured.
A collage spread from a handmade book featuring hand stitching, a woman dancing, a group gathered by the stream, a tree planting, colored geometric texture, some digitally rendered botanicals, a bit of an impressionist painting involving a tree and some water, and a photo of a young girl next to a giant solar oven. Text includes handwritten "justice is what love looks like in public" and the printed, "9. Solarpunk emphasizes environmental sustainability and social justice." "10. Solarpunk is about finding ways to make life more wonderful for us right now, and also for the generations that follow us." and "11. Our future must involve repurposing and creating new things from what we already have. Imagine 'smart cities' being junked in favor of smart citizenry."An image of a spread in a handmade collage book. A crayon rub texture in the background, with a drawing of a figure handling garden cuttings in front of a cozy house with a wheelbarrow next to it, also a photo of group of over ten solar ovens. The text reads, "21. In Solarpunk, we've pulled back just in time to stop the slow destruction of our planet. We've learned to use science wisely, for the betterment of our life conditions as part of our planet. We're no longer overlords. We're caretakers. We're gardeners."

Today's #SolarpunkArtAugust prompt is bicycles, and it makes me really happy to share this spread from the stitchbook I made this spring. Riding bikes instead of driving cars is solidly in the center of my climate action Venn diagram inspired by @ayanaeliza.bsky.social's TED Talk (link below).
A cloth book open to a spread with Ayana Elizabeth Johnson's venn diagram about your climate action: three intersecting circles with the words "what work needs doing?" "what are you good at?" and "what brings you joy?" all on the left page and a variety of bikes (and a scooter!) embroidered and cloth collaged on the right.

Today's #SolarpunkArtAugust prompt is "Urban gardens." For this drawing, I imagined reclaiming a city street for a community garden (in raised beds for now, because of poor soil quality), and there was plenty of room left over for walkways, bike lanes, and a tram line.
A city street with two- and three-story buildings on either side in various bright colors. The space that would normally be taken up by cars and parking is instead occupied by light rail, a two-way set of bike lanes, and a grid of raised beds.

Urban gardens originally had me thinking of a downtown full of canopy down at ground level, and rooftop gardens at sky level, but then I started thinking of reclaimed highways-- the way old train tracks are being made into greenways... #SolarpunkArtAugust
a black and white printout of a highway overpass where all levels of the highway have been painted over with trees, plants, paths for walking, biking, benches, a little pushcart vender with an umbrella, and a pond. There are also birds and butterflies, ivy climbing the walls, a biker bikes past on the one side, and a parent and child play near the pond.

Today's #SolarPunkArtAugust is "community gardens." This is a collage I did inspired by my 3 year old's first independent sign for her school's children's march. Her teacher wrote the words, but it was clear she had decided what it should say: "PLANT MORE GARDENS."
A double page spread of a collage cut from flower catalogs, with the words, "Plant more GARDENS" in then white paper lines on top of the spray of colors.

#SolarpunkArtAugust Today's prompt is little free pantries. My only real contact with one was our church in MN-- it always had granola bars, a few cans of soup, and some tampons and pads in their little free library. But it's made me think about the ways people work to share food freely.

Today's #SolarpunkArtAugust prompt is Little Free Libraries, so I both made a new instruction sign for our LFL, and I'm including an etching I drew of our house, including the library we made out front. :)
A photo of the inside of a little free library, complete with books, leaflets for a Josh Elliott, (a progressive candidate for CT gov!) and a little sign telling how little free libraries work. It will never stop being funny to me that the street fighter subreddit has a much better, well reasoned ai policy vis a vis literally all universities.
Hi, thanks for posting! We do appreciate you thinking of us even though we have to moderate.

Our stance on all AI generated content (Images, Video, Voiceovers, and whatever else LLM based AI gets up to in the future):

At best, they are approximations of street fighter characters as the AI has no clue what it is trying to create. Because of this, there is no street fighter content so they are not allowed. (rule 1)

Also, they aren't allowed per our source rule. As AI sources cannot be tracked, we must assume that they use uncredited sources in the learning data. (rule 5)

Finally, AI images, video, text, and voiceovers are barely any different than posting a screenshot of a google search. The level of effort is so low that we consider it spam (rule 3).

Because of these reasons, AI art and other AI content is not allowed.

If you would like to contact the moderators about this removal, you can do so here.
