Why did you ever think intelligence and wealth were correlated? They aren't and never have been.

(Not that you asked, but) I no longer buy the kompromat idea. I did a decade ago, but the intervening years have shown us that Trump is kompromat-proof.

Reminds me of the time I was on a panel on Maine Public Television and said “I was raised in a single-family home.” 🥴

Like, isn’t it part of barista training to learn the name of the MAIN THING YOU MAKE‽ (Just one of the million or two things that make my teeth itch. Sorry; I don’t like being like this.)

The literacy crisis is not just referring to people's ability to literally read and write. It's also people's inability to read for context. I've been a public educator for over 20 years and I have never, ever seen it this bad.

They were cool with the racism, sexism, bigotry, corruption, dismantling of social services and common decency, burning every ally, shooting American citizens in the face in the street, the insurrection, Trump being besties with Epstein etc etc. But once the price of gas got too high it was over.

I am so sad to hear of Annie Dillard’s passing. She was an exceptional literary talent - her remarkable “Total Eclipse” changed how I thought writing could be done. My heart goes out to her family and friends. www.nytimes.com/2026/09/16/b...

Her Thoreau-like account of journeys in the woods, published when she was 28, was the first of many ruminations on life and nature, good and evil.

Easily the most annoying #UX flub in Apple News. Whatever you take a user’s intent to be when they block a channel, surely it’s not “Please prominently feature content from this channel every time I open the app”? 🤦🏻‍♂️ It's been like this for at least ~7 years.

The one thing that seems potentially dumb about this is deciding to fly the primary VC-25 (29000) full of people in the face of a “credible threat”. But do we know they would have been safer via alternate transport?

So there’s a lot of precedent for certain risks being acceptable for WH staff/press but unacceptable for POTUS. Having said that, he’s an odious human being for ten million other reasons. This just seems like it shouldn’t be one of them.

Anthony Citrano @citrano.com · 13/08/2026
I despise the guy but couldn’t one say the same thing about all the decoys they have flown for literally decades? They fly two of the VC-25s a lot, they always fly 1-2 decoys for the white-top choppers. The USSS won’t let POTUS fly on the MV-22 Ospreys but staff and press fly on them all the time.

I’m not sure who is “in the room” advising Platner, but he needs to be told in no uncertain terms that this is unsurvivable. It’s over. The sooner you announce, the better. Show that you care about the people of Maine and America and do the right thing *today*.

Weight-wise we are almost getting into light tank territory. Someone better at physics than me can correct if I’m wrong, but I suspect light tanks might have actually been less damaging because they spread their mass over a much larger surface area.

The presidential state cars (“The Beast(s)”) weigh 8-10 tons each. They didn’t drive those down the pool, I realize; they drove the SUVs. But that’s a distinction without difference because they weigh about the same. They’re both built on a medium-duty truck platform (TopKick, I believe).

I hadn’t even thought of this stunt in the context of the “peeling” until today. Who would have ever suspected that driving a bunch of armored trucks over fresh, uncured sealant might cause it to crack? We must find these vandals and bring them to justice! 🙃

Eli Lilly gave extraordinary obesity drug access to a 79-year-old patient. Who was it?
Exclusive: STAT has learned that Eli Lilly and the FDA allowed a 79-year-old to gain extraordinary access to an experimental obesity drug through the agency’s “compassionate use” program.
