"bus bunching just happens sometimes" my dude it doesn't just happen at the *start* of a route lmao

Don't worry, I'm sure 9 am on a Tuesday is a very exotic time for anyone to be riding a bus lmao

approaching minute 40 of waiting for my "frequent network" @chicagocta.bsky.social bus. "every ten minutes!" and still 15 more to go according to the tracker.

There's been a fair amount of commentary on how social media has become less fun, less interesting, etc. And there's a ton on how it's become more passive—"everything is TV". But I haven't seen much on these things tie together? And I think they clearly do. reason.com/2026/10/05/t...

The end of social media
Algorithms and short-form video drove engagement. They also made it easier to quit.

I think that was generally what the Advanced Metrics said the whole time - the impact of a successful call and the cost of losing a challenge both improve the longer you wait

Have you noticed, lately, or noticed people around you commenting, that there just seems to be no money anymore. There's no money for companies to make the tv shows you like, the video games you like, the local diner you like shut down, no one you know can find a job. Think about that in context of

perhaps the biggest argument for impeaching everyone now is to increase the chances that Trump is unable to resist a transfer of power in 2028. democrats seem perhaps intentionally oblivious of this existential threat

it's a street begging to be pedestrianized. it's one way with super slow traffic and not all that much parking along a narrow corridor of lively pedestrian oriented businesses with tons of transit nearby. literally everyone including cars would benefit from this

if they closed that basically useless stretch of Lincoln Ave to cars year round I bet that part of Apple Fest would be less novel, just saying

the entire conservative movement in the US is structurally dependent on taking income taxes out of paychecks instead of headcount taxes from businesses. a basic change in the *presentation* of where revenue comes from and suddenly millions aren't mad from seeing a higher number become a lower number

I love how some VC bros bought a beloved gay club in Boystown and then renamed it "the (name of street it's on)", broadcasting their complete lack of awareness of the culture of the area. Shamelessly covering the club with "open until 4/5 am" signs hoping that the desperate settle for them

I just don't get why "restorative justice" always seems to mean "keeping the same amount of fame and public platform" for these folks. there's thousands of creators grinding for that spot in YouTube / Nebula culture, this guy isn't unreplaceable

I can’t believe we’re back to medieval level conflicts like “local merchant princes attempt to bribe theologians and the Pope’s advisors so the Pope will issue a favorable proclaimation”

hating myself is one thing but when the most beautiful brilliant minds of my generation talk themselves into at least briefly living in this amazing city at least in part because I'm around I feel a distinct honor that nobody can fucking take from me, like I lived my life the right way after all

I really do think tech crossed a line at some point between "helping you do the things you want to do" on the one hand, and "helping you do the things tech wants you to do" on the other. At this point, we're all contorting ourselves to live how the tech industry thinks we should be living.

I hope this is the case, but as doctors get less and less accessible (insurance reasons and the like), "type my symptoms into my phone and see if it says I need to go into debt or not" is gonna be a more common experience - and where predatory figures like RFK could exploit LLM outputs.

there's some version of the "oh my god he admit it!" meme here in that he just says that capitalism must be forced to not kill us all in literally every industry. just coming out and saying that every single corporation would let products murder millions if not tightly controlled by regulation

Imagine looking at the media landscape—music, books, movies—and concluding that it would be better if it were all simply infinite reflections of yourself, if you never had to be exposed to another personality, another experience, another life. Just you, you, you. Sounds fucking horrifying.

College administrators seem more than happy to expel and fire people who are a little bit loud about being anti-genocide; "embarrassing" the institution in the eyes of some apparently pro-genocide (?) donors is somehow more of a cardinal sin to them than raping a peer.

the belief that the electorate is fixed in size, and that these always-voters look at candidate's opinions like a grocery list and pick the ones closest to their own. the longer this base assumption remains unchallenged, the longer we're stuck in rudderless centrism and electoral politics hell

the myth of the swing voter, and the myth that third party voters were willing to vote first party if only they were denied the option of a third party, they're two ends of the same brain worm. "Nader voters would have otherwise just voted for nobody" doesn't even seem the slightest bit unintuitive!

what keeps me up at night is these guys have basically never received real pushback and they still lost their minds and shredded the federal government's regulatory capacity when employees started griping too much in the company slack. What if you actually arrested one of them for their crimes

we need someone to make an app that just provides a list of social media posts from my favorite bars or whatever, but with neither reels nor The Algorithm

crystal @cim.bsky.social · 29/09/2026
yeah I think my life is probably better off deleting the Instagram app from my phone. nothing I do there is a good idea. I think this means nothing on my phone will show me reels anymore? maybe I'll be able to get bored and put it down again

we as a society have to stop having those freakishly weird reels or clips where someone's head is physically pinned in one place while everything else moves. it's deeply unnatural and gives this horrid vertigo

There's an overtly kid-marketed pizza place bar like two blocks down the street at Stop Along; they had to destroy my beloved Boiler Room to give y'all that. can y'all go there and leave Lobo for the bitter hipsters like god intended

crystal @cim.bsky.social · 26/09/2026
I don't know what I expected but the Friday night experience at Pizza Lobo, which I feel is worth emphasizing is a _bar_, is that of having roughly two dozen children sprinting around the patio and throwing rocks at patrons for two hours. Wait staff had to lecture the idle and distracted parents!
