Well, Deno runtime development is being discontinued in a year, and Deno Deploy is ending in 6 months. Wonder how this will affect Supabase www.youtube.com/watch?v=W_g7...

I don't know why I'm surprised, but mobile apps from PHP? I haven't done PHP for over 15 years (and never at anything but beginner level), but I have been considering it as a new-ish learning experience nativephp.com

I don't have an ETA for the release, but it's at the phase where I'm gonna soon be prepping new app store screenshots and promo material. It's still iOS only for now. Android planned, but I prefer to validate my daily-driver platforms first.

New version of Nenuzo is approaching completion, including rail/train support, multi-modal journeys, and regular commutes! I am incredibly thankful for the people behind open-source projects such as MOTIS, Photon, and Valhalla, as well as the open-data providers.

Might also recommend @comaps.app which is a fork of organic maps but with much more transparent funding. It's been my daily driver for navigating in my wheelchair for over a year now. Good to see the maps being used for navigation! Do get involved if you're interested in contributing to OSM!

It's also behind a lot of handy mapping apps. I use organicmaps.app for walking and cycling routes in Sheffield because, unlike Google Maps, it doesn't send my bike up staircases or over stiles, and it has alleyways mapped.

Finally got around to working on Nenuzo again a little more in the past few days. I've been in the testing phase of train times support for a few months (because it has to have real world testing for me to figure out pain points), but I think it'll soon be ready to go out into the world.

Does EventBrite really not have a 'Download ICS' or 'add to calendar' option on the website? Maybe I'm overlooking it - there's an option for it in the app, but nothing on the website

Babe, wake up! New 'AI hallucinating basic commands' just dropped!
A screenshot from Google AI summary, showing a bash command.

It suggests that the command will download and bash-execute a 'Zitadel' setup script, but would instead actually download the githubusercontent[dot]com index page.

Context: I am not looking for an e-bike that would be considered illegal due to power outputs, non-pedaling, etc.

I've seen the Fiido D3 Pro and the Fiido D11. Both are what I'd consider reasonable pricing (as someone who doesn't know what to look for but these seem to fit the specs), but very much open to alternatives or thoughts on these 2.

Setting will be primarily urban, mix of flat and moderate hills. Usage will be primarily for going town to town + exploration, and also actually working out eventually. Folding frame + handlebars mandatory (for taking on trains + home storage). Budget unset, but please don't go wild.

Bike folks: I'm looking for a pedal-assist electric bike. UK-based. Initially I want it to be doing most of the work (e.g. for hills), but I want to be able to tune the strength of the assist so I can have it weaker. I don't know what's even worth considering - preferences/requirements next post.

Good thread about the AI 'going rogue' stories which is a lot more realistic about what really happened – in short, the people were lazy and made stupid mistakes. The AI didn't 'go rogue' at all.

Maybe I'm being too idealistic. I'm sort of just tired of the internet in general, because for all the knowledge sharing it once brought, it's been turned into a machine that reaches too deeply into the lives of everyone.

I think it's probably just my personal view on the world, but a world where the internet was left to the bots, and humans focused on nurturing ourselves - I think it'd alleviate a lot of problems (mental health, pride in the community, helping each other, etc).

Oh yeah, absolutely. The land requirements alone are intense. Maybe it's my mindset that's changed over the past few years influencing me. Focused on not spending on unnecessary things, and more lately been considering if I can do more to be self-sustaining.

I imagine we'd see an increase in community gardens to be honest, and more people going back to 'the old ways' of being self-sustaining. Honestly, I adore the mere idea of that becoming a reality. Let AI have this hellish playground, while the people thrive.

Thermal printers are another option worth considering. A few trade-offs to keep in mind (sunlight sensitivity, fades under cellotape adhesive, etc), but not a bad option for semi-regular printing, especially with A4-sized ones being small and light enough to carry in a bag.

At some point, I'm hoping to make the library use the same interface as `localstorage`. Quicache methods are synchronous though, so supporting both async and sync approaches would require modest rewrite. Or a new `quicacheAsync` class. In both cases, it would be a new major version bump.

It's been 6 years since I last released a QuiCache update. Today, version 3.1.0 is available and removes the date-fns dependency, meaning the library is now officially zero-dependency! 🎉 www.npmjs.com/package/quic...

If you ever want to get out of Tailscale, then Netbird is a solid choice because the management panel is self-hostable. You'll have trouble hosting it behind CGNAT, so an external VPS is mostly recommended for it, but an internal node can still work with it.

I did this about 3 years ago. Starting with Home-Assistant because I was tired of IoT bulbs (internet requirement + laggy response). Eventually it became a privacy and cost-reduction measure. Photos, video, music, calendar, password manager, CCTV, document management, and AI.

I recall hearing about this a while back, and it instantly got me thinking about my own approaches. System + opposite is probably how I'm going to roll in future, with a fallback to explicit light+dark in the event that the API's change in future.

For the FT to encourage such restrictions on ebikes and escooters but not also say the same about vehicles with 1000x the impact force signals that their articles and opinion pieces should be served with a very large bucket of salt.
000
Scott P. @chronsyn.dev · 29/08/2026
Limiting e-bikes and e-scooters to 15 MPH doesn't encourage safety; it encourages car drivers to overtake too closely, or riders to use pavements. Having categories that permit "keeping up with the flow of traffic" encourages road use, rather than pavements and reduces reckless overtaking.

Scott P. @chronsyn.dev · 29/08/2026
Performance e-scooter and e-bike owners have been crying out for years for the government to establish systems to allow them to register, with different categories and different requirements in relation to power output, lighting, horn, safety equipment, and allowable routes.
100
Scott P. @chronsyn.dev · 29/08/2026
"Fines should be better enforced for jumping red lights" and "display a large visible ID number" So... some sort of system of registering a vehicle to an individual would allow such fines to be enforceable? If only the country had such a system that could be expanded to support new categories.
100
Scott P. @chronsyn.dev · 29/08/2026
The FT really knocked it out of the park with feigning ignorance. "avoid carelessly parked cycles creating hazards". Meanwhile, cars still block many pavements across the country, forcing pedestrians onto the roads, and enforcement is rarely done in time.

Opus 5 and other models from that 'generation' have a significant verbosity problem. What could be answered in 1 short sentence spews out to 5 long paragraphs. Appending "simple answer - no babble, no fluff, no conjecture" has become almost second-nature, and I hate it.
