I’m not sure what the Kinew gov strategy is here. Many daycares - including the UofW’s - have these issues. Are they going to move them all? What about the local families? How about we look at root causes of crime instead of press averse band aid solutions? www.winnipegfreepress.com/breakingnews...

“Galahad and the Grail” is a lovely book and sort of the opposite of AI - a long and imaginative poem about Arthurian knights. I’m pleased to see it selling so well.

Thanks to Rob Nykoluk for finding this pic of me volunteering with Gifts of Grace near Thunderbird House. Over a decade later I can see how I was deeply shaped by street ministry. “O Lord, you are our Father; we are the clay, and you are our potter; we are all the work of your hand.” — Isaiah 64:8

I am very skeptical of numbers like this magically changing by huge amounts just before a municipal and possible early provincial election. The Main St Project and other orgs are overwhelmed by those experiencing homelessness. They aren’t worried about “not existing.”

I don’t have the words to describe the horror of this act. Isaiah does: “Isaiah 5:20: Woe to those who call evil good and good evil, who put darkness for light and light for darkness.”

Sometimes I think this government is entirely ruled by public polling. If a poll said overwhelmingly that people wanted a permanent circus at Portage and Main, the big top would be out by the weekend.

Another gem from the same book: “After 1940, it was not in the interests of the economically powerful to be nationalists. Most of them made more money by being the representatives of American capitalism and setting up the branch plants." We are seeing the consequences of those decisions now (2/2)

Wab’s move to permanent daylight time is popular, but it will have real consequences. This nurse points out one - SAD will be prominent as the sun won’t rise until 9:30 am in places. They should be moving to permanent standard time as advocated by scientists and experts. Poorly thought out policy.

Also just as another comment - Wab’s party isn’t great on the climate crisis, wealth inequity, or regressive taxes. His party alone has shifted the Overton window. The MB PCs will have to mover further right just to be different from them. Part of the success of the MB NDP is becoming the new PCs.

Absolutely, but I don’t think that Khan leaving will drag the party more to the center. It will be dragged further to the right. Their campaign manager, a self confessed Red Tory, quit as well. That tells you where they are headed. Reactionary politics and more of the Reform party antics.

A lot of folks here are cheering about this, but it is not much to cheer about. In an ideal world, a strong and sane opposition is necessary for a functional democracy. I fear that this move will produce neither of those results. Khan quits as Tory leader www.winnipegfreepress.com/breakingnews...

The port of Churchill is starting to sound more and more like Wab Kinew’s monorail from the Simpsons. No one is donating $79B to upgrade a port for LNG shipping only part of the year. They might spend $3B just to have a presence there for sovereignty reasons.
