91.8% of UWOFA Members voted YES. That is a powerful result. Faculty are fighting for fair pay and benefits, sustainable workloads, security for contract faculty, protections around AI, and ensuring instructional labour performed at Western International College is properly governed by the CA.

We proposed meaningful improvements to the benefits plan because Members shouldn’t have to fall behind as the cost of care rises. ❌ The Employer rejected the package. ❌ Members deserve better. Western needs to do better. 📣 Read the full bulletin. Link in bio.

Tuition is going up. OSAP grants are getting cut. During a cost of living crisis, families can't afford to take on more student debt. Students need more grants, not loans. And universities need more funding to help them thrive.
An illustration of hands throwing up graduation caps. Text reads: "Four years of tuition at an Ontario university costs about $40,000. Only 20% of Ontarians age 15-17 have enough saved for tuition. Ontario students more grants, not loans. Ontario universities need more funding."

At a minimum, cuts to OSAP grants will have paid for 43% of announced university funding increases—and possibly more. These changes exacerbate the affordability crisis and risk putting a university education out of reach for many students. tinyurl.com/yjccsa9r
A jar of change on a desk with a computer keyboard and financial documents. Text on a teal background reads: Ontario students need more grants, not more loans, to make university more affordable. Ontario universities need stable, long-term government funding. These are the keys to a thriving postsecondary sector.
