NEW FROM CBO: brutal distributional analysis of House GOP "Big Beautiful Bill" On avg the bottom 30% of households get poorer under the GOP bill Avg gets little - and are worse off if you include tariffs This'd be the largest transfer of wealth from the poor to the rich in a single law in history
figure 2. shows poor get poorer and rich get richer, percent change. -4% for bottom 10%. +2.5% roughly for top 10%.dollar change. shows poor get poorer and rich get richer.

Who *actually* makes up the 8% of Medicaid enrollees who aren't working? It's low-income women in their 40s and 50s who were recently working but aren't anymore--because they're either looking for work or serving as caregivers for parents, kids, and spouses. 19thnews.org/2025/05/medi...

No proof of work could mean no Medicaid — and women stand to lose the most
Congressional Republicans want to impose work requirements aimed at “able-bodied” adults. But data shows it would actually target poor middle-aged women who have left the workforce.

People are *not* as supportive of Medicaid work requirements once they learn that: 1) most people on Medicaid are already working, and 2) many would risk losing coverage due to paperwork challenges. Support drops from 62% to 32%. www.kff.org/medicaid/pol...

I'm not sure I've ever seen such a brutal looking distributional analysis from CBO. This contrasts the Medicaid and SNAP cuts for the lowest decile with the tax cuts for the top decile. www.cbo.gov/system/files...

work requirements are a solution in search of a problem. past experience in Georgia and Arkansas tells us they've just added red tape and administrative costs + kicked people off their coverage. www.commonwealthfund.org/publications...

The House GOP reconciliation bill blocks an important #Medicaid eligibility/enrollment rule making it easier for low-income Medicare beneficiaries to enroll in Medicare Savings Programs that help pick up premiums/copays and also lead to auto enrollment in the Medicare Part D Low Income Subsidy.

The same baseless talking points about Medicaid are coming up in the Senate Finance confirmation hearing for Dr. Oz, falsely characterizing people who enrolled due to Medicaid expansion as a monolith of "able-bodied adults." This is simply not true.

Community health centers (CHCs) are still locked out of federal grant dollars, despite the pause on the funding freeze. What's the ripple effect? CHCs can't pay their employees and could be forced to close certain services--or close down entirely. www.vpm.org/news/2025-02...

There are multiple reports that states are unable to request federal Medicaid funds at this time. If not resolved quickly, it could have significant ripples across the health care sector and major impacts on states financial stability. #Medicaid #healthpolicy
