Do you know the name Dorothy Hansine Andersen? She was the first researcher and physician to discover cystic fibrosis and its autosomal recessive inheritance pattern. As a pathologist, she recognised distinctive organ damage in the pancreases and lungs of deceased children with celiac disease. /1

There was lots of data to play with for #TidyTuesday this week where we're looking at the power of different passports! ✈️ I decided to try out the idea of using small multiples and highlighting to untangle a spaghetti chart with lots of lines 📊 #RStats #DataViz #ggplot2

I sometimes fired your up python/ pandas just for its read_html() function. With one line I got a list of all html tables found at a given url, which you can then write to a csv individually. And then I went back to #rstats - obviously

How about taking your 1:7 chart and hash it. Since text doesn’t count, that would go to 1:0. And the data is still there, viewers ‘simply’ would have to brute force the hash to view the data!

Shows a bar plot of top killers of birds (annually for the US). Cats are the major killer, at 2.4 billion, followed by crashing into building windows (600 million), vehicles at 214 million and so on. Wind turbines are estimated to cause only around 230 thousand bird deaths annually.

Thank you. And that’s a very good idea! It’s amazing what you can map as aesthetics. Initially I wanted to work with font families and show a more programmatic approach to selecting the font color using {prismatic} to optimize contrast. Not enough time in 2h, but I might write it up in a blog post.
