Today @wikipedia.org turns 25 years. Let's appreciate this monumental project of open knowledge and international collaboration! Without open knowledge, data and transparency we cannot see uncomfortable facts and where humanity need to act. data: @ourworldindata.org #RStats #opendata #wikipedia
A map of the world where many countries are coloured in grey and some are in orange-red colouring. The coloured countries mostly lie in Africa and Central America.

The title reads: Populations younger than Wikipedia
The subtitle reads: Today, Wikpedia turns 25 years. In some countries the median age is below 25 years. This means that in these countries at least half of the population is younger than Wikipedia. The darker the color, the lower the median age, down to an alarming 14.6 in Central African Republic. Nations in grey have a median age above 25.

Your average #code comment: “water”
A small sign in front of a little river. The sign says “water” in two languages, telling you the obvious.

I think I’ve seen this one before
A Startrek meme of a scene where a Cardassian torturer tries to break Cpt. Picard’s will and force him to repeat a false claim as truth. In this version, adapted to the blueberry context, Picard insists that there are only two “b” in blueberry.

An aerial image of the recently stranded cargo ship in Norway, that almost hit a cabin on the shore. The small cabin is labelled with "I need just one little histogram...", while the cargo ship is labelled with "library(tidyverse)".

I’m really happy to see our project FindMe2care flourish and grow. Come visit us at our booth if you’re interested in patient empowerment in genetic and rare diseases. Also, tomorrow I’ll present figures and experiences from the first year of patient-determined registration in the platform #gfh2025

Okay, so I totally overhauled the ISO codes plot for #TidyTuesday and #30DayMapChallenge for Day 16 (Choropleth), while also taking into account the native names of the countries as well (which seems obvious, but wasn't available in the initial dataset). #rstats Code: github.com/nucleic-acid...
A bivariate map titled "How ISO codes match the country names" showing the world. The title and subtitle reads: "Not all ISO codes seem to be derived from the initial letters of the name or the countries' acronyms. In fact, for 140 countries neither condition is met, even if the native and English names of the countries are considered. In 84 names, the ISO code resembles the initial letters of the name, in 26 the acronym (or a permutation of it). Only in Saudi Arabia, the 3-digit code (SAU) matches the name and the 2-digit code (SA) the acronym."

Countries where the ISO code matches the beginning of the name are coloured in blue, those where the acronym matches in red and the one overlapping country in a dark purple colour.

How do ISO codes match the country names? Day 14 for #30DayMapChallenge ‘World map’ as well as for current week’s #TidyTuesday. I will share the #rstats code shortly…if I find the time maybe with an interactive version to explore the map.
A world map showing how ISO codes match the country names. The map does not show any clear pattern or conclusion. The caption reads: Many ISO codes match the starting letters of the English name of a nation. Fewer ISO codes match the countries' acronyms or their permutation. However, most codes (139) do not match in any specific way.

A not too serious and premature contribution to Day 16 of #30DayMapChallenge: an election-related choropleth using #Rstats, #ggplot2 and {rnaturalearth}. Code: github.com/nucleic-acid...
A not too serious choropleth map related to the 2024 USA presidential elections. The title reads: "Don't mess this up". All countries on the world map are coloured in orange. The legend explains, that countries shown in orange will be affected by the outcome of this election, indicating that the election result has repercussions even outside of the USA across the world.

I’m not sure if this is a @bsky.app bug or an intentional, witty way of saying “followed by X, Y and *countless* others”.
Cropped Screenshot of the Bluesky app interface. It reads in German: Followed by person X, person Y and NaN others.

3D column chart of parental stress while visiting a cultural sight with a toddler… #RealLifeDataViz #dataviz I think we still made the most out of it for all involved family members, so definitely worth it. Next up: heat map of sunlight exposure of skin with a scale from bright skin to dark red…
A photograph of the 5 fanboy famous pillars of the Knossos Palace in Crete, Greece. The left two pillars are broken, with less than half of the height remaining. The center and two columns on the right are full height and carry a small flat roof. The columns are annotated to resemble a column chart, where from left to right the increasing column height represents the stress level on a scale from 0-100% in the situations “Getting ready in time”, 5 minutes into car ride “, “20 minutes into car ride”, “waiting for tickets”, “enjoying the cultural heritage”.

For Day 14 of #30DayChartChallenge a heatmap of Bob Ross‘ paintings, or more specific: how many different colors he used in each of the paintings in The Joy of Painting. Using data from the 2023 #TidyTuesday week 8 dataset. Data wrangling and visualization all in #python and #seaborn
A heatmap showing data on Bob Ross‘ paintings. Shown are values from the TV series the joy of painting with season on the y-axis and episode number on the x-axis. The heatmap shows the range of individual colors used for the painting in each episode, ranging from 1 to over 14. there is no clear pattern or correlation visible.

Close call to enter into #30DayChartChallenge #Day01 part to whole. Not pretty, but should qualify… Number of cities of over a million inhabitants. Data scraped from Wikipedia. This year just a few plots, but all will be done with #python on my mobile phone. #datavizonthego #dataviz

Some kind of #DataViz project, where I looked at #StarTrek transcripts and how often characters say „it’s some kind of…“ or variations on that. (Hint: In the Voyager series they do absurdly often!) Charts #ggplot2, composition and annotation in #Inkscape. Data via the #Rstats package {rtrek}.
An infographic composed of three charts. The title reads: Some kind of lazy scripting?

The upper half is made up of a column chart where the episodes of the Star Trek series vantage go on the x-axis and the count of how often the phase “some kind of” was used in each episode is on the y-axis. The top 4 episodes with up to 9 counts are in season 1-3, overall the occurrences diminish towards the later seasons.

Lower left has a table comparing the voyage series to other Star Trek series. The parade or variations thereof are quite frequent in other seasons, too. But voyager is undoubtedly leading by far.
Lower right has a leading board of characters using the phrase. Obviously character from voyager are in the top 10, with Cpt. Janeway on rank 1 (count of 40)!
Other characters from DS9 and TNG reside on the lower ranks of this leaderboard.
