The problem with this entire “talking across difference” approach to politics is that it assumes a shared consensus about democracy that no longer exists b/w the 2 main 🇺🇸 political parties. You don’t need to have lunch with people who don’t believe in free elections, equal rights, & the rule of law.

You can deny this is true, but ask yourself... Who was it who first got you into Pentangle and early Funkadelic? Who introduced you to Faust and Charles Mingus and Linda Perhacs and Cher's cover of 'Walk On Gilded Splinters'? Was it a dog? No, it was a cat you met under a dank bridge.

Canada is not actually 'battling for survival' in the context of secession, because in both Alberta and Quebec secession has relatively small amounts of public support. What we're battling is dipshit far-right populist politicians enabling/pushing for this destructive bullshit.

When I used to write for The Guardian, every time I wrote the word “meow” the editors would change it to “miaow”. It used to really get on my wick. Don’t try to make my cats sound like your upper middle class London cats, you fuckers. My cats did not go to your posh cat schools. They say “meow”.

I have a similar rule for people, always white people, who spend so many words trying not to just come out and say "It makes me uncomfortable when I see a brown person during my day." These kinds of people can justify any evil shit. When I say don't trust them I mean "keep your head on a swivel".

During the "debate" on gay marriage in Canada I made a rule for myself: don't trust anyone who opposes gay marriage and won't admit their core motivation is either "God say gays are icky", or "I think gays are icky". They always spent so many words trying to pretend it wasn't one of the two.

I've been reading a lot of Cox lately (see below), but yeah, this is the bomb. Not only do we need to tax them out of existence we probably also need to legislate the existence of jesters for them, and someone to just whisper "memento mori" in their ears from time to time.

The Simulation Theory bros basically reinvented Gnosticism and the Demiurge, so why not a physics model claiming evidence of a Creator. Some physics stuff like Causal Set Theory, especially when linked to conscious experience of time, is one bad analogy away from "the universe is thinking".

I've heard people make claims that AI would lead to a new Renaissance, but I didn't imagine it'd happen like this:
Screenshot of a Tweet from Pope Leo XIV. It reads:

"In this era of artificial intelligence, it is becoming urgen to distinguish human art from what machines produce. There is an ontological difference, even before an aesthetic one, between art and what a machine can generate through statistical calculation based on millions of images created by others. Algorithms lack the spark of humanity. For this reason, the Church wishes to renew an alliance with artists and cultural institutions to safeguard our humanity."

"In other words, the people who are the most 'polarized' in the U.S. electorate are those who are racist and sexist, and those who oppose racists and sexists."
Screenshot of article which reads: These numbers are relatively similar between Democrats and Repub-
licans, which often leads political pundits to claim this is more evidence
of “polarization,” and that both sides are equally to blame. However,
a closer look tells a more interesting story. The people who are most
likely to vilify and dehumanize their partisan opponents are Republicans
who are high in racism and sexism and Democrats who oppose racism
and sexism. The people who are least likely to vilify and dehumanize
their political opponents are Republicans who are low in racism and sex-
ism. One explanation for these patterns is that those Republicans who
are racist and sexist vilify and dehumanize Democrats because they see
the Democratic Party as a party of racial minorities and women; and
Democrats who score low in racism and sexism will vilify and dehu-
manize Republicans because they consider Republicans to be racist and
sexist. In other words, the people who are the most “polarized” in the
U.S. electorate are those who are racist and sexist, and those who op-
pose racists and sexists.
