Pretty sure it was the space vampire on Buck Rogers. I would have been... six years old?
Split frame image. On the left a frontal view of the space vampire, teeth out and (from an adult perspective) with a hilarious monobrow. On the right, the vampire sucks energy out of Wilma and also takes over her mind.

The guest star this time is Ray Walston. Fans of classic cinema might think of him as J. J. Singleton. People substantially older than me will remember him as their favourite Martian. But to people my age he is eternally "Mr. Hand".

Lunch time TV is another Friday the 13th episode, this one about a cursed comic. Episode starts in an 80s comic shop, and since the show filmed in Toronto someone who follows me probably knows if it was a set, or if they filmed in a real shop.

Those are all good, but my favourite "the devil built it" story is the one about the church in Trois Pistoles. And not only because the art on the beer named after the story is VAN WORTHY. (And not only because a bottle of that stuff kicks like a devil horse, either.)
Trois Pistoles (Three Coins) is named after a small village of Quebec. Founded over 300 years ago, Trois Pistoles gave birth to several legends, including one about the Black Horse. It involved a local bishop who conjured up a good devil (appearing in the form of bridled black steed) to haul large brick stones to construct a new church. When someone accidentally removed the bridle, the black horse suddenly vanished just as the last remaining stone was to be set. This stone is still missing, as can be seen when visiting the local church.Art of the church with the winged black horse behind it.

Would look awesome airbrushed onto the side of a van.A bottle of the beer Uniboue makes named after the story, with the art on the label.

Also, this stuff is 9% and if you spend a night on the bottles with it you will come to your own reckoning with the Divvie.

The last prose book in this latest drop of stuff isn't either a small press edition or a crowd-funder, it's the 2nd book in the City of Shadow series. I've been reading Turtledove since he was Iverson, and I have a soft spot for noir/fantasy mashups but this wasn't available in Canada, so…

I mentioned some crowd-funding things also landed in this set of books. * A collection of stories inspired by Gemma Files' EXPERIMENTAL FILM * A collection of stories arising from the "Alleyman" mythos that Seven Dane Asmund has built up across projects. * Quantick/Barker having a laugh about film
Cover of EXPERIMENTAL FILES.

Gemma Files is part of that small CanHorror community, and EXPERIMENTAL FILM was very cool, so interested to see how other folks have used it as a launchpad. The Alleyman stuff, from tarot decks to a podcast, is right up my alley. I don't know if Asmund can write prose, but I'll give it a chance since the ideas are intriguing.Generally a fan of Quantick's novels, and of VEEP and The Blagger's Guide, so I'll give this a whirl as well.

A couple of years ago Valancourt put out a book from an Italian horror author Luigi Musolino, and a number of people I trust really talked it up. So I got a copy and they were right. And now Earthling has done a lovely limited hardcover of that same collection...

Got a whole bunch of small press and crowd-funded books yesterday. Let me show you some of them. These are the new Meteor House books to complement my heart PJF collection. Random fact: I have reread Burton's Kasîdah A LOT more times than I have reread the Riverworld books.
First HC edition of PJF's Hadon of Ancient OparFirst HC edition of the sequel to Hadon, FLIGHT TO OPAR. This one has around 4000 words restored that were cut in the original printing (I am... ambivalent about this, as I know the value of editors, but...)An HC of RIVERWORLD ODYSSEY, which is basically a miscellanea of everything related to the Riverworld stories.

The publisher says: Clocking in at almost six hundred pages, Riverworld Odyssey is a journey through every piece of associated fiction, every pertinent essay, letter, article, and speech, every item of ephemera we could gather, in one Brobdingnagian volume, to tell the story—the history—of one of science fiction’s greatest series.

It might be a mistake, but I'm starting Sunday morning off with The Little People, in the new Centipede Edition (which looks much more respectable than the old pulp "Nazi Gnomes" one.)

While excitedly reading about Saul Rubinek's triple headliner status at the 2027 Stratford Festival, I accidentally also ran into the line shown below. I'm not exactly an expert on Hollywood inside baseball, but am I the only person who didn't know this? That "not too subtle" seems to suggest it
Fans of True Romance remember Saul Rubinek's character, the producer Lee Donowitz. (Based by director Tony Scott, in a not too subtle manner, on Joel Silver.)

Oh course, right there on the same page he has a suggestion for how to solve the problem. If you had suggested this to me in the 90s I would have looked at you like you had two heads, but a couple of additional decades of concentration of capital and it's starting to seem less mad...
If you could only tell them that living and spending isn't the same thing! But it's no good. If only they were educated to live instead of earn and spend, they could manage very happily on twenty-five shillings. If the men wore scarlet trousers as I said, they wouldn't think so much of money: if they could dance and hop and skip, and sing and swagger and be handsome, they could do with very little cash. And amuse the women themselves, and be amused by the women. They ought to learn to be naked and handsome, and to sing in a mass and dance the old group dances, and carve the stools they sit on, and embroider their own emblems. Then they wouldn't need money. And that's the only way to solve the industrial problem: train the people to be able to live and live in handsomeness, without needing to spend. But you can't do it. They're all one-track minds nowadays. Whereas the mass of people oughtn't even to try to think, because they can't. They should be alive and frisky, and acknowledge the great god Pan. He's the only god for the masses, forever. The few can go in for higher cults if they like. But let the mass be forever pagan.

Seems pretty grim, DH, how do you see this ending up?
I feel the devil in the air, and he'll try to get us. Or not the devil, Mammon: which I think, after all, is only the mass-will of people, wanting money and hating life. Anyhow, I feel great grasping white hands in the air, wanting to get hold of the throat of anybody who tries to live, to live beyond money, and squeeze the life out. There's a bad time coming. There's a bad time coming, boys, there's a bad time coming! If things go on as they are, there's nothing lies in the future but death and destruction, for these industrial masses.

I had find the source, since most of the "quote sites" on the Net are just garbage, and of course the slop machine is trained on them. Finding the source of quote is sometimes tricky, but this one is from LADY CHATTERLY'S LOVER. And looking at in in context another bit from just before leapt out:
"Anyhow, nobody knows what should be done in spite of all the talk, the young ones get mad because they've no money to spend. Their whole life depends on spending money, and now they've got none to spend. That's our civilization and our education: bring up the masses to depend entirely on spending money, and then the money gives out."
