Current favourite genre of people to encounter in the world: grumpy misanthropes cursed with a very friendly, sociable and cute dog. They just want to keep themselves to themselves, but their dog has jumped up on you adorably and is demanding a fuss.

Is there a name for being slightly too hip and contrarian to watch the series everyone says is great and that you should watch when it actually airs, then you eventually fold and watch it two or three years later, by which time you already know all the spoilers?

If I was in charge of the emergency alert system I'd send another one out now saying that actually yes it *was* a good use of an alert to remind people not to do things that might cause a massive wildfire. A noisy alert is annoying. Your house burning down is also annoying, arguably even more so.

I feel like the way of dealing with such behaviour is to look these people right in the eye and say, very gently, "You think your right to park matters more than homes these children?" Then when they reply just repeat it with slightly different emphasis.

A phenomenal player who puts everything on the line, and who has led from the front and dug England out of trouble on many occassions. He deserved a better send off, but I'm sure he's made the right decision for his family and his wellbeing. All the best Ben!

Using various shades of green and varied brushwork, Christopher Sanders study captures the intricacy of grassland species growing in a meadow at Polstead in Suffolk in 1950 - a work that immediately brings to mind Dürer's 'The Great Piece of Turf,' from 1503.

Victor Askew's work varied little over the years and 'The Studio, St John's Wood,' (1948) is typical in his predominant use of a palette knife. He was described in an exhibition catalogue as wielding a palette knife 'like D'Artagnan with a sword.'

Looking at doing a little city-break over Easter to Brussels/Antwerp. Looking at return journey. £165 cheapest Eurostar Brussels to London (add on train to Manc), or a £17 flight. I'd much prefer to take the train, but it's hard to justify when it's almost £150 more than the cheap Ryanair flight.
