"Saddleworth of course is in the historic county of Yorkshire and until the 1974 reorganisation of local government considered part of the West Riding, so David Clark who was Saddleworth's MP until the Feb 74 election could be considered..."

19. Long Hall. Quite busy/touristy as I think Tony Bordain went there, but good!

17. Grogan's. They sell the art on the walls. Lively but chilled.

DUBLIN. These are all central (I like going out in Rathemines/Ranelagh but no need to travel out) so fairly touristy, but none of these are on temple bar and all seem to have a decent amount of real life regulars 16. Kehoe's. They show Leeds United games here. It's usually my firat pub stop

Unfortunately, other than the train and the 12 bus routes, there is simply no other way to access north Bromley other than to drive

What I like about Metro is catchihg up with all the ways this little guy fails to successfully use doors
Serge the Paris Metro rabbit being a silly bunny and getting trapped in every door he sees

I don't think anyone's waiting with baited breath for the resumption pf this thread, but I'm at a loose end so will pick it back up... 15. The Blackfriar. Near to Fleet Street and the City, funky carvings inside. Nice view of the river outside when sunny

14. The Assembly House, Kentish Town. It's probably no more deserving of a place than lots of other big old former gin palaces in London. But I don't know them and I know this one, and it's a classic example

13. The Pineapple, Kentish Town. Back to my old neighbourhood in North London. On a street of cute pastel coloured houses. Fantastic wallpaper. Also round the corner from....

12. The Hare, Bethnal Green. The least hipsterified and most pubby pub in East London. Yes they've got the football on. Yes they've got the fruits. No you can't get a 1/3 sour.

No Burnhamite pretend anti-London chippiness from this northerner. Happy to acknowledge it as the world's best city. LONDON 11. The Southampton Arms, Kentish Town. Probably the best place in the world to spend a Sunday afternoon, after a morning yomp over the Heath

LIVERPOOL. 10. Ye Cracke. Go on a Friday night and get some choons on the jukebox and have a dance.

SHEFFIELD 9. The Rutland Arms. Is this not the platonic ideal of a city pub?

8. The North Bar (the OG one on New Briggate). That's a bar not a pub, the masses protest. Look, it's my thread. Been going for 25+ years, now progenitor to a chain of Norths in various Leeds suburbs and one off Oxford Rd in Manc..

7. The Grove. Specifically on an open mic night in the back room, or after a Leeds United match. But anytime really.

I forgot the numbering. Whitelocks should have been #5. We are still in LEEDS 6. The Victoria Hotel Re-opened after a 5 year hiatus. Same folks who do Whitelocks (and the new White Cloth food hall). Gorgeous inside. My uncle's enagement party was here I think.

LEEDS. Whitelocks. The pub of pubs. Alpha and Omega. The heart of Leeds. Betjeman was a fan.

4. Sam's Chop House. Statue of L.S. Lowry drinking at the bar. Boddington's on tap. You're definitely in Manc.

3. Mr Thomas's Chop House. Narrow. Food. Near St Anne Square. One of two almost adjacent but unrelated afaik chop houses (watch this space...)

2. The City Arms. Post work hubbub. Small and snug. Things to read on the wall. Good selection on the taps. Give it a go!

MANCHESTER 1. Peveril of the Peak. Excellent. Mad layout. Old carpets. Plum porter. Buzzing on a weekend. Pool, jukebox, what more do you want. Hugh Grant came for a pint when he was over for that Chanel fashion parade in Manchester thing

From Tim Shipman's book (just been reading this chapter) about the first thing Eddie Lister did on being appointed to the No 10 team
Book text
Nor was there a plan for governimg. 'The first conversatiom I had wiyh Eddie,' one aide said, 'was about whether you could claim air miles im government' (you can't).

The Star under a previous editorial team attempted a Simon Cowell dead front page that was pretty stupid and tenuous (the actual story was a fellow X-factor host said "Simon who?" jokingly when someone mentioned his name

Snow-dog has appeared in the garden this morning. Looks a bit like a rabbit but reliably informed it is indeed a dog.
