Derrida said that each death isn't the end of *a* world, it is the end of *the* world, and I think he's right. taking this insight seriously is what it means to actually not be a utilitarian monster

This is the most fucked up and immediately harmful policy decision I think I've ever seen in adult trans healthcare in the UK, and that's saying something. The Welsh Gender Service is one of the best in the country. It is widely praised by the patients it helps. That is why it is being targeted.

Here is the full suspension letter from UGent that was sent to Nathan Cofnas, it shows ample reason for his suspension and potential termination. Including breach of contract, using the University of Ghent’s name and legitimacy to promote his racial supremacist views and causing reputational damage.

I'm seeing a lot of people invoke the figure of the intersex person in current discourse on sex and gender, especially in relation to the UK government's anti-trans segregation regime. But the actual voices of actual people are getting lost. This buried report offers vital evidence to counter that.

Not sure if "snub" is the right word here. The Supreme Court, notoriously reluctant to actively protect the rights of minorities, declared Trump's executive order unconstitutional - even after he showed up to the court in person to glare at the judges as they heard evidence.

The term "biological sex" was adopted widely only in the last decade as a reaction to mainstream acceptance of trans people. It was rarely if ever used before that. By any metric, from legislative usage to search query usage, it's plainly evident this is a novel term only made popular by the right.

In their introduction to the new issue of Social Text, which is called "Sylvia Wynter and the Question of Technology," editors Che Gossett and @tavia.bsky.social emphasise the ongoing relevance of Wynter's work. Opening sentence:
The curious arrival of white “refugees” from South Africa to US shores, at a moment when the Trump administration is furiously trampling on due process to fulfill campaign promises to deport millions of “undesirables” from Latin America, is as vivid an enactment as one could imagine for what Sylvia Wynter has called the overrepresentation of Man.

🚨DR UK's Statement on the EHRC's New Code of Practice "We are appalled at implications that an adequate workaround is trans people using Disabled toilets instead. We will not be used as a loophole in the wider erosion of trans rights." Full statement👇 www.disabilityrightsuk.org/news/disabil...
Disability Rights UK’s Statement on the EHRC’s New Code of Practice
As the makers of the original RADAR key and custodian of the National Key Scheme, Disability Rights UK issues our unequivocal solidarity with trans people, who should not be forced to choose between risking harassment in public facilities – or not using them at all.
Image of Disability Rights UK logo in a purple box.
We are appalled at implications from the Code that an adequate workaround is trans people using Disabled toilets instead. It is a vain attempt to get two marginalised groups to blame one another for our lack of facilities, when the blame lies firmly at the feet of policymakers. We will not fall for it. We will not be used as a ‘loophole’ in the wider erosion of trans rights.
Image of Disability Rights UK logo in a purple box.
Our RADAR key scheme began in 1981, rooted in the understanding that accessible facilities can be the difference between living the lives we deserve – socialising, travelling and working – and complete social exclusion.

Our community knows how it feels to be scapegoated simply for trying to access the necessities we need to live. Trans rights do not come at the expense of Disabled, nor anyone else’s.
Image of Disability Rights UK logo in a purple box.
As is clear from this Code of Practice, it sets a dangerous precedent for the erosion of other protected characteristics. If the Equality Act can be up for debate in this arena, who is to say this will not be the case when it comes to disability in the near future?

As a result, the Disabled-led movement must make a clear stand against this ruling, not to mention because 52% of trans people are Disabled themselves.

The reactions of some researchers on Twitter finally being held responsible for not having read the very paper they submitted are... something. Mainly, they don't think they should have to check every citation or make sure the data is real and accurate. Because it's too hard, I guess.

🤔💭 Did you know that Sylvia Wynter was not only a literary and cultural theorist and philosopher, but also a playwright, actress, and a novelist?
Text:
They bowed their heads. The instinct for survival was as strong in them as in their slave ancestors. Some weight of memory in their blood carried the ghosts of dark millions who had perished, coffined in the holds of ships, so that some could live to breed more slaves; and they, after their freedom had been won, survived the rootless years. They survived the loss of gods and devils that were their own, of familiar trees and hills and huts and spears and cooking pots, of their own land in which to see some image of themselves
- SYLVIA WYNTER, The Hills of Hebron

Visual Description: The text in this image is black and rests against a maroon red background with a slight gradient. A grayscale Sylvia Wynter sits to the bottom right of this image. She is an older black woman, and she is surrounded by white and yellow flowers, as well as deep green leaves.
