They may get lucky and avoid having any existential risk to the party’s existence if they end up with no credible challenger to their right if reform does the usual post-Farage Farage party thing, but that’s running into the usual Kemi-era-conservative rhetoric problem of setting a very low bar

I feel like the Tories’ reputation for regicide is somewhat overstated. It took two years, and the Tories coming 5th in an election to remove May, it took Pincher on top of partygate to remove Boris, and truss is her own special case

As a Lib Dem voter I think the big issue with Ed is not necessarily electoral, it’s about being prepared for a hung parliament

Surely the only logical punishment since Manchester City has been convicted is not relegating them to the championship/league 2/national league/northern counties league, but sending them to the Australian A league

Nationalisation is clearly going to better than it did last time because we’re prefixing everything with ‘Great British’ rather than just ‘British’ and that means it can’t go wrong

and yes, I do think that there would (rightly) be criticism if a Western state did something this crass and a racing series capitulated to it, there was (rightly) criticism of the embarrassing IndyCar Washington fiasco and F1 deserves to get shit for being used as a political pawn

the POINT of this stunt about moving the grand prix to the Saturday and holding it this weekend is that Aliyev wants to draw attention to his agenda here. the idea is to get foreigners in and push the Azerbaijan narrative. Armenia can't afford to do this sort of shit. it's a stunt.

You could even oversee such a broadcaster with some kind of political office, perhaps even a cabinet minister

See a lot of similar behaviour with London buses, where the bottom deck is rammed, but the upstairs is relatively empty (which benefits me but still is weird)

What on earth is happening?
This had become the new normal. RNLI crew members had been forced to take their permits off their cars after their tyres have been repeatedly slashed. Most of them have been pilloried at the school gates or turned away from local pubs. One man who worked in search and rescue had been beaten unconscious and hospitalised, recognised for TV interviews he had done.

What really grinds my gears are motorists rights activists who launder their activism as something else like ‘safe guarding the nearby primary school’ (???) or protecting the farmers market (which is supportive of the development).

Do you think we could find a village willing to declare independence unless Andy Burnham appoints a secretary of states for culture media and sport

Tbf my understanding is that the teaching unions’ main complaint is about work load/pay, so I think there’s a degree of the government is trying to appease them in a way that costs less money (and won’t work)

We've had a "Number 10 spokesperson" briefing to journalists, and reported comments from Burnham in a closed door meeting That's pissweak. If you can make videos about chicken nuggets or whatever, you can make videos about violent fascists

I think the worst part of Labour's response to the fascist mobilisation is Andy Burnham's absence. He's the most popular politician in the country, with social media reach and actual powers of persuasion, and he's saying nothing in public. He can actually be of use here but he's choosing not to

Ultimately, for all his flaws, I have to be fully behind a mayor who’s waged war on the motorist and is fighting Westminster council’s attempts to set the capital’s bedtime/be in denial that they’re the middle of a global city not some sleepy village in the shires

The median American is also very wealthy, where America really suffers in its income distribution is that the bottom decile is way worse off compared to a lot of Europe because of the lack of safety net

I want the Prime Minister to look into a TV camera and say the RNLI are heroes, that we do not change policy by street violence in this country, and that he expects any criminal action to face the full force of the law. That's it. That's all he has to do.

I think there’s also a popular line of thought of if you fix people’s economic circumstances, that’s enough to stop the far-right, when that really doesn’t explain why the wealthiest country in human history voted for a fascist in 2024, or all the other non-economic drivers of the far right

This government reminds me of Joe Biden. Biden didn't want to be the prosecute Trump president, he wanted to pass an infrastructure bill. Burnham doesn't want to be the take on the hard right PM, he wants to do social care reform and devo. But you have to do the task you're set or face disaster.

Share a thought tonight for James Johnson, who will for once not have to motivatedly reason his way to why a poll-related news story is positive for the Tories, but won't be able to share that insight.

Chris @chreeeeeees.bsky.social · 22/08/2026
I don’t think it’s that, I think the later problems are with the writing not the acting. However there’s clearly a lack of interest in introducing new characters in king’s landing which definitely kills the political heart of the show

Anecdotally there has been a rise in the number of kids taking 1 minute to complete their online maths homework in the past year. Also the SEN homework club that I help with definitely has been less well attended which suggests kids are using ai instead of getting help
