It looks similar to the setup in current use. I'm not a big fan. It requires you to bring your own bungie cord, something I don't regularly carry around. Riders getting off at different stations need to coordinate.

They missed the opportunity to create a dedicated space for bikes. I would have liked to have seen hooks similar to Sound Transit.

It's a start. Over the years I've ridden many express buses that use part of Michigan Ave as part of their route. It's called express, but if you get on it in the loop the short section on Michigan Ave can take longer than the section on DLSD. It hardly feels like an express bus.

Chicago's transportation policy was captured perfectly in the following vignette I saw this morning: Woman in business casual on a Lime scooter going at 10mph in the middle of the lane, a full CTA bus patiently driving behind her, and an entire line of cars aggressively tailgating behind the bus.

One other note is that the starting location of dockless trips are inexact. Some trips may be included in a neighboring community area.

There where 2,452,878 trips that started within Chicago during this time period. About 90% of those rides started north of Roosevelt Rd. Data excludes trips on electric scooters.

Hi, I was trying to look into non-electric bike vs electric bike ridership. It would be useful to separate out lightweight stations that can only accommodate electric bikes. Some of them are labeled public rack or corral. Anytime else to look for?

A purple line, yellow line, and red line coming in to Howard Terminal. Note that the red line is heading into the southbound platform so riders transferring to the purple or yellow would need to go up the stairs and then down to transfer.
Looking down at the tracks there are 3 trains.

Under 0.4 inches of rain, rides decreased by 17%, and with more than 0.4 inches of rain, rides decreased by 28%. A surprising finding to me is that wind speed had very little effect on the number of rides.

Under the base condition, a weekday in 2025, no or trace precipitation, and max temp under 75F, the expected number of rides is 21,077. In 2026 there where 10% more rides. On days with temp between 75F and 86F, there where 20% more rides. And on days with max temp above 86F, 21% more rides.

I did a little dive in the data on trips on divvy over the past few summers. Days hotter than 75F had increases ridership. Ridership didn't drop even at temperatures above 86F. Data is from Jun, Jul, and Aug of 2025 and 2026. Weather is from O'Hare.
A log-linear model showing the relationship between the weather as well as some control variables and the number of divvy rides. See replies for details.

One of the bigger seismic shifts in coding I've seen is Linus Torvalds, creator of Linux, accepting and utilizing AI in coding. Though Al still can't match his persistence and genius.
A post from International Cyber Digest (@IntCyberDigest) featuring two side-by-side images below text describing a debugging incident by Linus Torvalds.
The post text reads:
"Linus Torvalds says tracking down a bug in Linux's Intel GFX Driver was a 'debug session from hell.' The AI helping him repeatedly called it 'impossible and unsolvable' and suggested they just write a report instead.
He kept pushing. 24 debug patches and 18 kernel boots later he found the bug: one round_up() that should have been round_down().
He then let the AI write the commit message.
git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/..."
Below the text, the left image shows Linus Torvalds wearing glasses and a suit jacket, holding up his middle finger to the camera during a presentation. The right image shows a close-up of a black Intel Arc B580 graphics card.

The airport express has to offer travelers something in order to get them out of taxis and ubers. The uber offers door to door service, something that is very attractive to someone who has been traveling all day and is carrying luggage. The price would have to be competitive, and break even.

It seems like some kind of airport express is proposed every few years. First off, the Blue Line is fully integrated into the CTA, so a lot of people finish get off at one of the stops outside of the loop to transfer to a bus. In addition, ORD is served by several express PACE bus routes.

I think that Dolly Parton was, for a lot of people, an ambassador of the "good" values people think of about the South: kindness, hospitality, can-do spirit, sharp and witty and down to earth. I think for a segment of people, too, she was theantithesis of a lot of noxious masculine country stuff.
