If we're talking about being trans in the UK, @mrjamesob.bsky.social might be interested to know the UN is currently (and repeatedly) warning the UK Gov that they risk institutionally discriminating trans people, and the UK media refuses to even mention this story. www.ohchr.org/en/press-rel...

a museum in England, you say? www.reddit.com/r/legal/s/kt...

England museum now says the sculpture l loaned for six months was a donation, although my signed receipt includes a return date. What should I request first?
Advice needed
Location: England
Last September I loaned a small sculpture to a local museum for a temporary exhibition. The receipt identifies me as the owner, describes the piece, and gives 31 March as the return date.
When I arranged collection, the curator said their database marks it as an unconditional donation. I asked for the document supporting that entry. They sent a one-page donor form bearing a typed version of my name, but no signature, date, or description of the sculpture. I have never seen that form before.
The museum has not threatened to dispose of the work, but it has refused collection while its commitee "reviews ownership." I still have the original receipt and emails describing the loan.
Should my next step be a formal demand for return, a request for their full accession records, or both? Is there any risk that waiting for their committee weakens my position?

You aren't entitled to take that art and use it for something new (making an AI for your own profit) and have everyone just accept that.

They can keep it in a locked room and hidden from the world if they want. It's theirs. They can let it be displayed online if they want, but that was always with the assumption it would only be used for aesthetic appreciation by humans.

Then maybe you've got a point. But your argument for training ML on on copyrighted data without the creators explicit consent in order to get to your C3PO doesn't line up with that. Artists have the right to say what happens to their art.

Relaxed corvid @chillraven.bsky.social · 19/08/2026
Point is artist made the art for human people. If you can make artificial people that have the capacity to enjoy art - without using a huge amount of classics/copywrited examples to say "this is good art and you like this" as the stepping stones to get a facsimile of what you want to end up with -

Relaxed corvid @chillraven.bsky.social · 19/08/2026
Maybe they made the art centuries ago and the museum who owns the original now is displaying, whatever.

Relaxed corvid @chillraven.bsky.social · 19/08/2026
The person who made the art presumably originally did so for it to be seen by people, not to be used to train future AI for the AI's owner. Art is 1) made by a person and 2) displayed with that person's consent. They sold or loaned the art to an owner or gallery

It's possible to totally die from it, until you remember that the world won't *actually end* if you aren't the best Lucy ever. Contagious is trickier... Basically most people have *some version* of "be perfect", and we all pick it up from the society/family that raised us, so kinda contagious?

Relaxed corvid @chillraven.bsky.social · 07/08/2026
Only a training shrink, but it could come from what is called (in my school) as a strong "be perfect" driver - we don't want anyone to see us as less than the best we can possibly be, which extends to our work. Eg if someone sees the 1000s of photos on my SD card before I've found the 10 I like

I’ve written to the Mayor of London: “I urge you now to work with councils across London to support their efforts to make sure the (EHRC) guidance cannot be used to diminish the everyday rights of 🏳️‍⚧️ trans Londoners and to seek the wider adoption of these approaches across our city.” [1/3]
Letter to the Mayor of London Sadiq Khan.

Equality and Human Rights Commission (EHRC) Code of Practice for Service
providers, Public Functions and Associations

I am writing following our conversation at Mayor’s Question Time (12 June 2026) where I raised concerns about the distress and anxiety trans Londoners tell me they are feeling following the publication of the revised Code of Practice for service providers and associations by the Equality and Human Rights Commission (EHRC).

You told me that your “priority is to ensure London remains a city where everyone, regardless of gender identity, can thrive, feel safe and belong.” [1]

You'll be aware that this week, on 5 August 2026, the Government's updated EHRC Code of Practice comes into effect, following an order from the Minister for Women and Equalities.

Trans led organisations, such as Trans Actual, have maintained that the Code remains unworkable; it does not protect trans people, it does not help service providers and it does not respect the UK’s human rights obligations. [2]

Despite cross party condemnation, with 166 MPs signing Early Day Motion (EDM) 240,
tabled by Nadia Whittome MP, in an effort to halt this discriminatory guidance, there has
been no debate in Parliament.

The government's own Equality Impact Assessment admits that this code of practice would have wide-ranging negative impacts on Trans people and that Trans women could face a "disproportionate risk of violence and sexual assault.” [3]
page 2
I would like to know what work you and your Deputy Mayors have been doing, since we spoke about this in June, to prepare for the changes coming into effect on 5 August.
Londoners need to know how you intend to uphold the rights of trans people and support service providers to remain trans inclusive.

As an elected London politician, I am particularly concerned because London has the highest proportion of people in England whose gender identity differs from their sex
assigned at birth. [4] These are people in our community, work colleagues, neighbours, friends and family members, who should be able to participate in public life without fear of being outed, harassed or discriminated against at work or in public when using a toilet or changing room.

Lambeth Council recently announced that it would challenge the implementation of the
Draft Code of Practice on Services, Public Functions and Associations. Councillors backed a motion condemning the draft code as “incoherent and self-contradictory, discriminatory, and impossible to implement in a reasonable and proportionate manner.” [5]

The motion called on the council to protect LGBTQIA+ workers and service users by
refusing to implement the guidelines should legal advice confirm that such a move would be lawful.

When we spoke at MQT in June, you said “the GLA will continue to work closely with
boroughs, service providers, community organisations and partners to ensure our services remain welcoming, safe and appropriate.” [6]

I urge you now to work with councils across London to support their efforts to make sure
the guidance cannot be used to diminish the everyday rights of trans Londoners and to
seek the wider adoption of these approaches across our city.

This is about Trans people's right to exist in society free from abuse, discrimination and
segregation, with the autonomy to be who they know themselves to be.

Yours sincerely,
Caroline Russell AM

No, it's a fad that popped up in American academia and then spread through the internet in the first quarter of this century, infecting every country it touched. It is like an airborne AIDS, and it has been the worst disaster for gay people since that disease
