TY @citycastdc.bsky.social for highlighting this issue. For DC's crisis response system to work, we need someone to call, someone to respond & a safe place to go. We'll continue to push for each part of our system to have the funding & capacity to deliver the services that children & families need.

👏🏼👏🏽👏🏾 TY to the @councilofdc.bsky.social. We appreciate the hard work that went into creating a budget that helps support children & families. We look forward to working with the next mayor and the full DC Council – both our new and returning Councilmembers – to solve these persistent funding gaps.

Keep Clinicians in Schools. Council must restore the $5.4M cut to SBBH in the proposed FY27 budget.

Children's Law Center @childrenslawcenter.org · 17/06/2026
For the first time, we have SBBH providers in over three quarters of schools. If we don’t restore the proposed 22% funding cut for FY27, we’ll be throwing this progress away – and students will be left without the services they need. @chmnmendelson.bsky.social
Stacked horizontal bar chart with the title "Proposed Cuts to SBBH Will Reduce Supports for Students". Shows that a reduction to SBBH funding in the FY27 proposed budget would result in about 45 clinicians being cut.

One of these programs is Safe Shores, which serves as the Children’s Advocacy Center for DC. Safe Shores needs long-term sustainable funding so it can continue providing services to youth & families seeking justice and healing in the aftermath of abuse. @cmzparker5.bsky.social

School communities are also alarmed by DBH’s proposal to cut the contract for DC’s only mobile crisis response service for youth. ChAMPS provides specialized, developmentally appropriate responses, preventing unnecessary hospitalization & added trauma. @chmnmendelson.bsky.social
