What an incredible gem the African American Civil War Memorial Museum has been for our nation & for Ward 1. I am constantly in awe & in appreciation of the preservation of this sacred ground. I am grateful to Dr. Frank Smith, whose dream and vision and hard work made this happen in the first place.

I so enjoyed speaking with Jubilee Jobs participants working on their job-searching skills. I’m so impressed that these young people, who are working to reenter the job market or have struggled in the job market are making the investment (their time, their energy) in themselves.

It’s hard to believe 25 years have passed since that unfathomable attack on our country. Impossible to forget where I was when I heard the news–walking across the quad at Boston college, the fear I had for my family who worked in Manhattan then, or the incredible pain that followed for each of us.

Households that normally receive trash, recycling, and food waste collections today will be serviced tomorrow.
INDEPENDENCE DAY COLLECTION SLIDE
THE DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC WORKS (DW) will not collect trash, recycling, or food waste on Friday, July 3. Friday collections will "slide" into Saturday.

The Fort Totten Transfer Station will be closed on Friday, July 3 and reopen on Saturday, July 4. The Benning Road Transfer Station is closed for renovation until further notice.
