I think you're right. Suppliers of lethal drugs won't provide them for capital punishment, so we get hacked together methods, like you said, or completely different but still monstrous alternatives like nitrogen suffocation or firing squad

Some jurisdictions permit physician-assisted suicide so it's not like peaceful, reliable methods are unknown to science. Capital punishment as such is wrong, but made even worse by the state's incompetence.
