My main point is that waiting for an aggressor to stop, or appeasing them, or being a good enough person that they just realize they were wrong—it doesn't work. Once they have gotten violent, things are violent. Making them un-violent is not one of the available options.

I was raised in a violent home. The violence came from one direction, my father. I tried avoiding him, appeasing him, appealing to his "natural affection," being as "good" as possible, being invisible. Nothing worked. The one thing I never tried was fighting back. I regret that.

Sometimes, when we vote, we do not have the luxury of voting for a candidate we feel unconflicted about. Sometimes, we cringe when we tap the screen or fill in the oval. Sometimes, the bus we are catching stinks. Those elections might be the most important ones. Harm reduction is extremely valid.

The executive branch (the branch the president is the head of) has no control over the judiciary. That's separation of powers. Trump was in fact tried and convicted of 34 felonies. Biden did nothing to slow that down. He couldn't have, legally. Trump isn't in prison because court cases take time.
