The wait for PFAS test results could soon be measured in hours, not days. Our researchers have successfully trialled a mobile laboratory that can detect "forever chemicals" in soil and water on site, providing an early indication of contamination within six hours: utas.au/PFAS_testing

I was happy when I found out that fasting only needs to be 8 or 9hrs, not 12hrs as I originally thought, for most tests. I feel very unwell if I have to hydrate and not have coffee.

Yes, all going well, we see. A stadium we can't afford but don't worry - those getting rid of those "excess" 1.7k jobs will fix things. Oh, and all the back-end staff at schools that totally won't shift the administrative burden to already overburdened teachers. FFS. Useless.

Front page today. The median rent for a room in a Tasmanian sharehouse is now unaffordable for singles earning the full-time minimum wage. Let me repeat that. *A room in a share house* is now unaffordable on a full-time wage. This is storming the barricades time, people. #auspol #politas
Small article on the front page of today’s Mercury.

Heading reads: Rent is right out of reach

Byline: Rob Inglis

Text reads: The median rent for a room in a Tasmanian sharehouse is now unaffordable for singles earning the full-time minimum wage as Hobart's vacancy rate languishes at an all-time low of 0.2 per cent, an alarming new report has found. Anglicare Tasmania's Rental Affordability Snapshot measures whether people on low incomes can afford a rental in the private market by examining all rental properties listed on realestate.com.au and Flatmates.com.au ona specific weekend in March every year.
Released on Thursday, the 2026 snapshot showed there were just 770 properties available during the period in question.

no gas company left behind ❤️
Satirical cartoon of Anthony Albanese sweating over two buttons: one to cut 160,000 people from the NDIS, the other to properly tax gas profits. The image highlights the tension between reducing disability support and under-taxing resource companies.

The top panel has Aragorn saying "You have my sword."; The second panel has Legolas the Elf saying "And you have my bow.". The third panel has Gimli the dwarf saying "And my ax...ial skeleton". A Threads post from me - with the theme: Biology Teaching
The post reads: I was teaching blood typing and it was going really well until the students got squeamish and started asking "where did you get the blood from?", "where did you get the typewriter?", "why does it use blood instead of ink?", "why are you typing out our names?"...
Boy, you put in all that effort...

Yes, my eldest hooked onto a lot of misogynistic misinformation (no such thing as a gender pay gap, etc...) as a mid-to-late teen. My wife and I had discussions with him about the quality of information that he was consuming and eventually he settled into a better informed, empathetic young man.

Funding for frontline FDSV services is still only 80% of what the sector has spent a decade calling for. That's 1 in 5 women being turned away. If this government can afford to hand $368b to Trump for AUKUS submarines, why can’t they afford to fully fund women and children’s safety?

There has been good work done to bring violence against women into the spotlight and encourage women to seek help. But if that help is not there because there isn’t enough funding, we are condemning women to homelessness, violence or death.

This week, advocates gathered in Parliament House to demand the government make women’s safety a priority in the lead up to International Women’s Day and fully fund frontline services. The Greens proudly and loudly back those demands.

Just me and my PALS #HistoJoke #Spleen
A histological section of the spleen stained with H&E. In the centre, a large purple sphere of many, many cells - this is the white pulp. Outside, there are pale pink connective tissue strands and many, many red cells and nucleated cells. This is the red pulp. At the top of the white pulp is a small arteriole and a layer of cells - this is the peri-arteriolar lymphoid sheath, or PALS. There is a photo of the author in this area. Hence, me hanging with my PALS. It's a hilarious histology joke but very niche.
