![In 2010, the New York Military Academy nearly closed. A band of school officials traveled to Manhattan to plead for a bailout from the academy's most famous alumnus, Donald J. Trump. According to two attendees of the meeting, Trump became visibly irritated after a rogue parent pitched an ambitious $50 million plan to build a hotel at the academy, along with junior college. Then an alumnus spilled a Diet Coke on Trump's flashy carpet. "[Trump] was quite pissed off," one of the attendees recalled. "And then Miss America came into the meeting and distracted everybody. And that was the end of the meeting." While it looked for a moment as if Trump's alma mater might shutter forever, it was purchased by figures allegedly connected to the Chinese Communist Party for a cool $16 million.
