When should children start school? What should kindergarten look and feel like? How much time should young children have to play and develop? And what does it mean to be "on time" to graduate? These are questions I think about often for my own children and in my research.

The research is complicated. Retention is not a simple solution. Its effects depend on when it happens, why it happens, and what support accompanies it. But perhaps the bigger question is how we think about time in education.

I biked my kids to school today and car traffic was worse than usual. I got asked directions on the subway three times on the way home driving out to Long Island today was horrendous. The #lirr strike is hardest on the working class and immigrants. Pay people a living wage and end the strike!

The numbers offer the most detailed look at how many pregnant, postpartum and nursing people have been caught up in the immigration enforcement surge, despite federal policy discouraging the practice.
