People warn that AI creates conditions that will trap us into a more monotonous way of work. But still, 100 years after his writing, it’s Max Weber’s Iron Cage that we should be worried about. If we don’t create flexibility within institutions to be ourselves, the tech will be in charge.

We spend a lot of time asking how to make students more resilient. Not enough time asking how to make institutions more supportive.

My neighbor introduced himself to me as “Ricky.” Then I met his really nice wife, but told her I also met Ricky and she got kind of subtly annoyed. “It’s Rick.” She said. Clearly, only she wants to call him Ricky. But girl, tell your man that!

The biggest myth in US ideology is that success and failure tell us about who individuals are. But outcomes actually tell us most about people’s environments. Some swim upstream with currents working in their favor. Others are caught in riptides. As sociologists we ask: What’s the water doing?

In 2023, a Mexican girl, 4, was allowed U.S. entry for lifesaving medical care. She and her parents, who live in Bakersfield, have been told they must leave.

There's no question about "how" they wound up in graves. IDF shot and killed them. Indeed, this is not disputed. The red of the passive voice in a case like this is unprofessional, a total failure to adhere to journalistic standards.

Every Child is No Longer Welcome in Our Public Schools
Anyone who believes "Everyone Is Welcome" in public schools is ostracized because of a larger plan to keep us separated by our differences. It's time to reject that premise and unite.

I made this the other night while procrastinating, mainly because I thought all the posts about the blackout were boring. It feels like there is momentum bringing people together!
A poster for the economic blackout on February 28. It is a big red Jack rabbit on an aqua blue back ground. It says economic blackout in hand done black type. There are two black speech bubbles. One says “don’t buy stuff Friday February 28th. The other says we have power. Below it says No Amazon, Walmart, target, gas food, gas. Below that it says OK small business, use cash.
