Joel Young is running for re-election as an AC Transit Board member. Not only has he been found guilty of harassing a fellow board member, he's used the position for his own personal interest. He was censured by the Board he claims to serve. www.mercurynews.com/2013/07/10/a...

AC Transit and Director Joel Young thought they could sweep his harassment under the rug by hiding it and then lying about it. No way were we going to let that happen. Young isn’t fit for office, and since his colleagues won’t hold him accountable, voters must. www.sfchronicle.com/bayarea/arti...

A recent study blames loosening drug penalties in CA with increasing homelessness. However, the alternative would have just been people in jail or prison, which is much more expensive than actually housing people! We can just do housing first with enough housing! calmatters.org/housing/home...

Report: Reducing drug penalties likely increased CA homelessness
Prop. 47 likely led to an estimated 7,000 more unsheltered homeless Californians between 2015 and 2019, according to a new PPIC study.

I stopped biking before the pandemic because I tapped a car that either didn’t see me or didn’t care as they made a right turn off. I was in a bike lane. Scary enough to discourage me despite the benefits

Was talking today to a coworker (for a local govn’t!) who resents paying local taxes because nothing works. Seemingly not realizing that everything is more expensive to government too, and we have been defunding services for decades.

And an unintended consequence of the good expansion of elementary school to TK and younger is independent daycares go out of business. We need broad subsidies or universal childcare to make sure people can afford childcare and childcare workers can be paid properly.

The right in the US has been leveling the “left wing media” accusation against the NYT in particular for my whole life. It’s gaming the refs so they tie themselves in knots instead of accurately describing reality.

Also, once the ARPA and other funding of Covid dried up and costs rose, local governments do not have the funds to implement harm reduction — but always more money for police departments which can’t even recruit “enough” officers.

FWIW, this SFGate article implies that Albertsons (the parent company of Safeway) is behind the lack of a TJ’s in the Rockridge senior housing plan. Either way, seems weird that the ground floor will not be a storefront. www.sfgate.com/food/article...

During his May Revise budget presentation, Newsom was way too rosy about how good the projected big AI IPOs were going to be for CA. I know we’re a tech state and rely on this revenue, but he’s all in. Also, if governments use Microsoft, they have copilot, which my job is pushing

I agree they should not have kicked him out, but this does ignore that all his progressive positions on Israel were heel turns mid-campaign this year. Again, I think they’re wrong and we should welcome people who change their mind, but I see why they think it’s cynical / not genuine
