If it occurs in a flower, the flower head will often look distorted and stretched, if not “double-headed.” The technical term for this is “fasciation.” Here’s a Gerbera bloom on my balcony that fits that description.

Occasionally, if you spend a lot of time gardening, you’ll come across a plant with some parts that look unusually flattened or crested. This can occur in a variety of different tissue types (e.g., stem, fruit, and flower). #Gardening #Gerbera #Flower #PlantSky 🪴

The sunflower from last week opened fully a few days ago. In September, at the flower, I crossed paths with a couple of resting bumble bees. This October, a sweat bee. #Garden #Sunflower #PlantSky 🪴

Only grew one sunflower to maturity this year. It should finish opening soon! The garden’s in rough shape after the summer drought (and the Anise Hyssop smothered a lot of the other plants; it’s a lovely native species, but it does not play nice with others, at least in my conditions).

Functionally, I want to compare it to a stiff brush. At least, that is how its strengths and limitations have guided my approach to using it. It requires frequent grip adjustments to get different strokes and it holds a lot of ink without tending to burp, which I think is fantastic!

I’m trying out another new nib this weekend. It works on a similar principle to those glass dip pens you see in Instagram Reels, but it has a bullet-shaped silhouette; you can vary the line weight by holding the pen closer to or further from horizontal. #Kakimori #PenAndInk #Art #InkSketch #DipPen

I’m adjusting to the G nib quickly. The flexibility is fun to play with (I’m used to relatively stiff bowl pointed Speedballs). That point is sharp!

The nib was way too juicy for that paper, especially where any pressure was applied. The hairlines were surprisingly clean, though. 🫟

Admittedly, it has been a long time since I’ve picked up a pen. The most difficult part is almost always getting started, and this, I believe, stems partially from my perfectionistic tendencies. #Drawing

What is tiny but has a PLANET-sized influence? Sphagnum of course. A 🧵 on why this moss matters more than ever. Holding more than 20× its dry weight in water, halting decay, shaping entire ecosystems, thwarting fire. Never underestimate a moss. 1/
