Restorative justice doesn't mean "nothing bad ever happens to you." It means, "in determining what happens from here on out, we center the needs of your victim to repair what happened to them over your own needs."

BREAKING: SCOTUS’s Republican appointees will allow Tennessee to kill Christa Pike tonight, vacating a stay of execution entered by the Sixth Circuit this morning. The three Democratic appointees dissent.
SUPREME COURT OF THE UNITED STATES
No. 26A428
KENNETH NELSEN, WARDEN v. CHRISTA GAIL PIKE
ON APPLICATION TO VACATE STAY
[September 30, 2026]
The application to vacate stay of execution of sentence of death presented to JUSTICE KAVANAUGH and by him referred to the Court is granted. The September 30, 2026 order of the United States Court of Appeals for the Sixth Cir-cuit, case No. 26-5864, granting a stay of execution is vacated.
JUSTICE SOTOMAYOR, with whom JUSTICE KAGAN and
JUSTICE JACKSON join, dissenting.
The State of Tennessee is set to execute Christa Pike for the 1995 murder of Colleen Slemmer. Earlier today, the Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit issued a stay of Pike's execution solely to "adequately address and resolve" the issues presented in Pike's pending application for relief. Order in In re Pike, No. 26-5864, ECF Doc. 10-2, p. 2. Tennessee now asks this Court to vacate that stay and permit it to proceed with Pike's execution today. Stunningly, the Court acquiesces. Because its decision clears the way for the State to execute Pike before her still-pending legal challenges to her conviction can be properly considered, I respectfully dissent.

3. In May 2016 or June 2016, I created an idea for a new type of monster called a wereshark. This monster is an anthropomorphic shark that gains strength whenever Neptune is in the sky. It has impenetrable skin that, because of its texture, can shred metal and is invincible to bullets and blades. It is immune to disease because of its unique skin texture. The wereshark can generate electric fields and discharge lightning bolts from all over its body, including its dorsal fin. It is vulnerable only to magnets. For instance a magnet bullet can kill a wereshark.

People get confused about the trans sports thing because at a glance it seems like a small issue that impacts a very small number of people and thus makes sense as a "reasonable" concession. But it isn't, because conceding that is accepting that a kid's trans identity is on some level fraudulent

I'll go one further: the true-crime industrial complex is a tool of fascism. People falsely believe that random violent crime is extremely common are much more likely to vote for "law and order" candidates. Also, only extending sympathy to people who claim factual innocence is extremely dehumanizing

So much of carcerality is the belief that criminality is an inherited trait. "What do we do with the rapists/murderers/evil people?" necessarily presumes that evil is born, not made. But that's a really dangerous assumption. For one thing, it's based in racist, eugenicist ideas.
