Shout-out Shawn Menard, city councillor for the Glebe, doing the most Glebeite thing he can: argue with people on Reddit and say they're insulting him when they're just calling him out on his shitty decisions regarding bus lanes on Bank St

The City of Ottawa is leasing some REM units to see if they hold up better to get Stage 2 East back on track, and the first delivery is tonight at Montreal stn at 11pm. Issues with platform height are ok because they are retrofitting with surplus wheelchair lifts intended for Siemens Venture cars.

Remember the last ice storm that crippled LRT, and the trains that got stuck trying to remove stuck trains? All the discussion about buying a diesel rail tug? Well, they bought one - and it's adorable. Thanks for the vid @railfans.ca. youtu.be/vDNLkwUD_3Y?...

There's no longer any question: it's time to compensate transit riders for what they're going through. These pictures are heartbreaking - people going to evening shifts, home and family, class.

3) Emergency bus lane and transit priority measures need to be enacted on key corridors to ensure our working buses are used as efficiently as possible. We can't have our limited bus fleet standing still in traffic.

Tim Tierney, pay attention to ANCHOR

Re: Is your councillor a chronic no-voter on city budgets?

Article content
Councillor Tim Tierney is not offering solutions; he’s pandering to his constituents in an election year.

Article content
If he wanted to address the issues facing Somerset and Kitchissippi and other downtown wards, he would pay attention to the staff report on the ANCHOR program.

Article content
Article content
In its first year of operation, ANCHOR received 4,464 calls, with almost 400 of those transferred from 911 operators. Over half those calls were solved over the phone by the community navigators. And 42 percent were attended to by the ANCHOR teams. Only 5.62% were redirected to OPS because of possible harm to persons. Read that again, Tim: 5.62%

Article content
ANCHOR is a very cost-effective way for the city to address the many calls for mental health and substance abuse issues. What would it have cost us to send police to attend to 1,800 calls for mental health and substance issues? How would police have resolved these cases? By hauling away people to Innes Road for having mental health issues? Cops are not social workers. We can’t arrest our way out of this crisis. Beacon Hill is not Chinatown.

As someone who lives in Chinatown/Little Italy, I see the impact of this crisis every day. The ANCHOR program is one part of the solution. But we all know that what is really needed is more mental health and substance abuse help and, most importantly, more housing with high acuity supports. Councillors Troster and Leiper are pushing for the right solutions.

Speaking directly about Councillors Leiper and Troster, he said: "What is surprising is their unwillingness to prioritize community safety." You do not accuse fellow councillors of not caring about the safety of their communities. That crosses a line. It's unacceptable and merits an apology. 10/

Been 4 min and now it's 14, so this does not seem to be a bug. @helps.octranspo.com mind explaining why a train is 5 min late on a line that has already had its service quartered on weekends?

Griffin @celedonianerror.bsky.social · 02/12/2025
@helps.octranspo.com Serious question: how is this acceptable? This route is every THIRTY minutes. You cancelled two trips in a row. That is a NINETY minute gap. I now have to walk 15 min in -15 along not-super-well-maintained sidewalks to get to the train instead of just... taking the 42.

Bill 60 means that we will not be able to add cycle tracks to Albert and Slater Street or extend the O’Connor bike lane to Wellington Street. It’s an absurd overreach by the Ford government that will make all road users less safe and waste millions. I hate it here. www.cbc.ca/news/canada/...

Ottawa says new provincial bill likely kills at least 3 bike lane projects | CBC News
New provincial legislation prohibiting how municipalities can build bike lanes means three projects in Ottawa likely can't move forward and others will get more expensive, according to a city report.

The little things add up: broken sidewalks, unkempt weeds, the slow pace of snow removal. Austerity has a cost and a real impact on our quality of life. We ask city staff to put together budgets, but they are working with scraps. We can do so much better.
