Was at Tricks of the North con today, a one day event from Wigan Pies & Dice, of trick-takers, imports and other weird games. Was blessed by the company of @ava.foxfort.net and got to share some wonderful games including Sliced Anglerfish, Sosogisugi Sakazuki, Nokosu Dice and Create Camp #boardgames

Sliced Anglerfish. An incredibly janky yet endearing handmade monkfish.

Sosogisugi Sakazuki. A player is pouring wooden sake tokens from a can into a ceramic cup.

Nokosu Dice. A hand of suited cards, with suited dice waiting to be drafted on the table.

Create Camp. Artwork made from assorted gubbins, following a given prompt.

Some thinky #boardgames tonight, happy we managed to squeeze two chunkier games in. Picked up my own copy of Druids of Edora after a friend introduced me, and enjoyed trying a copy of Feya's Swamp.

Druids of Edora. The forest board, with player dice placed on action spaces. There are action spaces on various shrines linked together by paths.

Feya's Swamp. Boats are sailing around the board, hunting for in-season fish whilst building larger and large island settlements.

A couple of highlights from #boardgames club today. Picked up a copy of @robcramer.bsky.social'sThe Grand Carnival after @watchitplayed.bsky.social shared. I like the double spatial puzzle of foundations/attractions, and the moving guests add a detail I feel is missing from a lot of theme park games

The Grand Carnival. A player board which is nearly fully covered in foundation tiles, on top are placed attractions forming a carnival layout complete with walkways for guests to move through.

More #boardgames at the weekly club today, featuring - The Gang: Deluxe (played with a whopping 9 players - we did not succeed), Nunatak: Temple of Ice, Sosogisugi Sakazuki and Wingspan: Pocket

The Gang: Deluxe. A neoprene playmat showing a river of cards, alarm and gold tokens, and different coloured chips from 0-8

Nunatak: Temple of Ice. The temple is represented by player colour blocks and floor tiles, creating an impressive multitier 3D structure.

Sosogisugi Sakazuki. A sake cup is nearly overflowing with wooden sake tokens, the pouring can placed next to it.

Wingspan: Pocket. A variety of bird cards are placed in a player's flock, with additional birds and food cards in their reserve.

The Gang: Deluxe. A neoprene mat with a river of cards, alarm tokens and gold bar tokens.

Create Camp. 8 prompts, with three completed artworks from different players also visible, constructed out of various different components.

Oh I can do threads now, which means I can write more words about picks from #boardgames club today. Starting with Sosogisugi Sakazuki, a dexterity game about pouring sake. The components in this are excellent, everything fits into the can for storage and that is an actual ceramic sake cup.

Sosogisugi Sakazuki. A player is pouring wooden sake tokens from an aluminium can into a ceramic cup.

Tuesday night #boardgames! A friend managed to track down the Greenhouse expansion for Botanicus and we also tried another of the HamishCon indies - Rare Groove which is a trick taker with set collection and market manipulation.

Botanicus. A player's garden board with plants of differing growths laid in rows and columns. In the center of the table is the shared board with tracks and action selection spaces.

Rare Groove. A hand of cassette cards in four suits. In the center of the table is the market that you draft cassettes from during trick resolution, affecting the trump and market price of suits.

Managed to squeeze some bonus bank holiday dice based trick taking #boardgames, Mino Dice and Nokosu Dice, in after seeing Coyote Vs Acme (which was a lot of heartfelt fun)

Mino Dice. A player screen with two custom dice behind it. A won trick of dice is beside the screen.

Nokosu Dice. A hand of cards, with several won tricks on the table and two remaining dice on the player board.

Some #boardgames from the weekly club today - featuring Rise and Fall, Create Camp (check out my rhinoceros), Canyon (retro trick taker from 1997) and Giant Buffet

Rise and Fall. A 3D board made up of plains, forest, mountain and tundra hexes. On the hexes are wooden pieces in different player colours - nomads, cities, boats, mountaineers and temples.

Create Camp. A rhinoceros made out a selection of random wooden components.

Canyon. Canoe tokens are racing around a river.

Giant Buffet. A precariously balanced stack of food tokens on a tiny plate.

The announcement that March will be the last ever AireCon has hit me pretty hard. I haven't made it to ACWest in Telford before and, being unable to make it this year, had it pencilled in for 2027. I was also looking forward to ACNW returning to Manchester. I hope other cons spring up. ☹️ #boardgames

Airecon is my favourite tabletop convention, full stop. I have a lot of love for UKGE, but Airecon's atmosphere of welcoming friendliness mixed with great events, exceptionally kind volunteers & a solid system for inviting strangers to hop into a game is just unrivalled for me.

Tuesday #boardgame night! Container was back on the table due to demand, and also got to play the new Playte reprint of Hellas, which is a lot of game in a small box.

Container. In the center of the table is the island board with different colours containers in player scoring zones. Around it are piles of other components - extra containers, factories and money cards.

Hellas. An island split into hex spaces, with houses, palaces, statues and temples being built by players.

And now for the real juicy stuff from today's #boardgame club. Creat Camp, Marutto Fishing, Giant Buffet by @kevmakesgames.bsky.social and Mimic Trick by @cityhare.studio

Create Camp. 8 prompts are in the centre of the table. Around this players are constructing art out of an assortment of random bits and bobs in an effort to get other players to identify which prompts were not given to players.

Marutto Fishing. Two small acetate sheets have been placed on the ocean board as the player tries to draw the net to maximise good fish catches without being able to measure.

Giant Buffet. Two players attempt to stack food pieces onto a tiny plate using only their index fingers.

Mimic Trick. A hand of cards mid-game, showcasing some of the mimic cards which copy the lead suit and are worth negative points if won.

Splitting today's #boardgames club summary into two posts due to the amount of bangers we played today. Between Two Castles of Mad King Ludwig, Bunny Kingdom, Inkwell and Mino Dice (aka Skull King: Dice)

Between Two Castles of Mad King Ludwig. 3 different castles are on the table, depicting a side on 2D view, constructed from drafted tiles.

Bunny Kingdom. Bunny tokens in three different colours are spread across a board split into square territory spaces. Some of the spaces are occupied by farms, mountains, lakes and also cities.

Inkwell. A canvas mat with different coloured cubes (red, green, black, yellow, and gold) in different open drafting spots.

Mino Dice. A player screen with a die behind it, other dice (won tricks are beside other players screens, with an active trick of rolled dice in the middle of the table.

Sharing some highlights from HamishCon. Create Camp, make art and deduce which prompts weren't used. Johari's Window, trick-taking with your hand split into four. Marutto Fishing, draw nets by eyeballing the ocean. Volltreffor, 3 stage trick-taker with market draft, melding and tricks #boardgame

Creat Camp. A pile of assorted stuff is on the table. There are also 8 prompts with assigned numbers. One player's artwork is visible, a collection of wooden shapes, meeples and a fuzzy ball. The hidden prompt card facedown next to it.

Johari's Window. Part of a player's hand showing a 0 and red trump (x). Part of their hand is visible to only them, part is visible to everyone else, part is visible to everyone, and part is hidden from everyone.

Marutto Fishing. A player's boat board, ocean and two acetate nets have been positioned, after drawing in the preparation zone, to catch maximum good fish.

Volltreffor/Dungeon & Five Tribes. A hand of cards that were drafted from a central market by spending victory points. The four 4s can be played as a melody for bonus points. After which the hand will be played in a trick taking round.

Minos: Dawn of the Bronze Age. The central map of Crete with 3 different players occupying different regions with warriors, cities and farms.

I am really enjoying Big Walk with friends. Lots of communication based puzzles, with fun inventive solutions, in a relaxed environment where you can just chill and chat. It's like someone turned an escape room inside out - no time pressure and a large puzzle filled landscape to explore.

Sunday #boardgames, featuring Whirling Witchcraft (with new micro expansion), Master of Coin, Sheepy Time and Pueblo

Whirling Witchcraft - a hand of recipe cards and one (new) familiar card. In the background are recipe cards being used to process ingredients.

Master of Coin. Three player sheets with copper pennies scattered across them.

Sheepy Time. 4 colourful sheep meeples race around a dreamscape, trying to hop the fence before the nightmare wakes them up.

Pueblo. Neutral and coloured wooden pieces are stacked on the board as the chieftain circles awarding penalty points.

A quick learning game of @postmarkgames.bsky.social's Master of Coin tonight before I share at my #boardgame club at the weekend. Went heavy on the locked coin mechanic and capitalised on it with the abbey monument.

Tuesday games night! Forgot to take a photo of Snowdonia, but we also played Middle Ages, First Class Letters and Big Shot. Four #boardgames on a weekday evening?!

Middle Ages. A player board with interlinked stacked tiles depicting farmland, city walls, and inner city. The central player area features rows of tiles and player horse meeples in turn order for open drafting of the tiles.

Big Shot. Cubes in four different colours are placed in different zones as players compete on auctions to win valuable lots without taking too much debt.

First Class Letters. Satisfyingly chunky dice, and sand timer in this game where you try to write words using rolled letters - without using the banned letter on the red die.
