It's so good. Having to pick which prompts haven't been used instead of say, having to perfectly match each player makes for a fun puzzle with some wiggle room for error. And players who do well lose components in later rounds, which makes it more challenging for them - in-built dynamic difficulty!

Some absolutely inspired artworks by friends in Create Camp tonight and also played more Tiger & Dragon which has firmly wormed its way into my brain as a recent favourite #boardgames
Create Camp. One artwork representing "Sled" made up of a wooden triangle, with a pawn in a plastic hex. A second artwork representing "Africa" - a series of circular pieces laid out to create the outline of the continent.Tiger & Dragon. A hand of chunky numbered tiles standing next to the player board.

"Bury My Heart in Mockingbird Station" resonated deeply with me, and has been stuck on my head for weeks. Even here in the UK, as a gay man, the feelings of community rejection are strong from the post-industrial, slowly crumbling rural farm town that was once my home.

I was desperately trying to portray "lemon", with my only circle piece being red, whilst the prompt "tomato" was already present. I was pretty proud of my artwork, but the rest of the table... not so much. Top tier game for sure.
Create Camp. 8 prompts, with three completed artworks from different players also visible, constructed out of various different components.

Had a chance to play this, and it's the most stupid (complimentary), chaotic fun. We kept on asking for one more game, it's so quick to play. Though don't get too enthusiastic like me and accidentally elbow your friend in the face 🫣

I had so much fun watching Bryan stumble and flail his way through the movie. Even something as simple as the increasing hilarity of his reaction to padlocks!

Was at Tricks of the North con today, a one day event from Wigan Pies & Dice, of trick-takers, imports and other weird games. Was blessed by the company of @ava.foxfort.net and got to share some wonderful games including Sliced Anglerfish, Sosogisugi Sakazuki, Nokosu Dice and Create Camp #boardgames

Some thinky #boardgames tonight, happy we managed to squeeze two chunkier games in. Picked up my own copy of Druids of Edora after a friend introduced me, and enjoyed trying a copy of Feya's Swamp.
Druids of Edora. The forest board, with player dice placed on action spaces. There are action spaces on various shrines linked together by paths.Feya's Swamp. Boats are sailing around the board, hunting for in-season fish whilst building larger and large island settlements.

Thanks for sharing, I hadn't seen Suspend before and it looks wild! The tiny catapult in Diceapult is also calling to me. I've been really enjoying Cat and the Tower, Giant Buffet and Sosogisugi Sakazuki recently.

Also played Bouba/Kiki by @unclejonbob.bsky.social - I love games that play with language and got to try some of the early scenarios with a large group today - there is a lot of variety in the booklet, can't wait to dig in more. For bonus points, can you guess which picture corresponds to the word?
Bouba/Kiki. There are four abstract pictures; a circle with a line through it, a double sided megaphone, a music note, and a guitar(?). The chosen word is "GRANQUIL"

A couple of highlights from #boardgames club today. Picked up a copy of @robcramer.bsky.social'sThe Grand Carnival after @watchitplayed.bsky.social shared. I like the double spatial puzzle of foundations/attractions, and the moving guests add a detail I feel is missing from a lot of theme park games
The Grand Carnival. A player board which is nearly fully covered in foundation tiles, on top are placed attractions forming a carnival layout complete with walkways for guests to move through.

On the train home, knackered after queuing and waiting a combined 4 hours just to get ghosted by my MP, but it was fantastic to see so many people turning out for @transsolidarity.bsky.social's Mass Lobby, many thanks to all their volunteers and organisers for facilitating the day!

I cannot express how much I stand by this
A quote from Ava Foxfort of But Why Vikings, with a lovely illustration of her in a nightie that was a profile picture somewhere.

"You get to watch people build their own language, create their own system, say absolutely absurd things to each other and it makes me laugh so much and I love it."

And finally, Fathom by @paperfortgames.bsky.social - played the second scenario for the first time, enjoying exploring all the box has to offer. Was not expecting accurate anglerfish mating, but I approve of the inclusion!
A player board in Fathom shows the players ship and submersible, and an array of discovered and undiscovered undersea species tiles spread over their board.

Onto Big Top - picked this up in the deep discount @allplay.bsky.social sale after being on my wishlist for a while. Twisty bidding game with incentivised bidding values - bidding specific values completes cards allowing you to score them.
Big Top. A player's completed attractions are stacked up next to the remaining card in their hand. Another players incomplete cards can be seen, showing what values they need to bid to score.

Next up, Calculator by @odddicegames.bsky.social - a standard deck trick-taker with a great twist. I love contract bidding hubris, and this one allows you to accidentally delete your own score by multiplying by zero. Would highly recommend checking this one out.
A hand of standard playing cards, and a score sheet for Calculators showing players building their own scoring calculation.

Oh I can do threads now, which means I can write more words about picks from #boardgames club today. Starting with Sosogisugi Sakazuki, a dexterity game about pouring sake. The components in this are excellent, everything fits into the can for storage and that is an actual ceramic sake cup.

From playing a bunch of their games - I've often wondered if they design backwards, i.e. the "intended" version has some amount of the modular rules and then they strip as much off it as possible to make the basic mode...
110
Sam / ceefox @ceethefoxrun.bsky.social · 04/09/2026
Yeah absolutely, after a few plays of Pueblo we started to notice that players who had figured out some of the puzzle and started first definitely have somewhat of an advantage, hence why the expert mode exists... these designs naturally draw you in to the modular rules in a way other games don't

Sounds like a well loved copy. There's just something really satisfying about carving up the map with canals, and the two act structure isn't something you see in a lot of games. I'm a sucker for a good Kiesling and Kramer - Porta Nigra is another personal favourite.

Tuesday night #boardgames! A friend managed to track down the Greenhouse expansion for Botanicus and we also tried another of the HamishCon indies - Rare Groove which is a trick taker with set collection and market manipulation.
