Portsmouth residents Jo, 54, and Theresa, 51, said they decided to drive to Gosport after hearing about the potential landing.
Theresa said: "I'm struggling. Not just financially, but welcoming people in when we can't feed our own homeless is insulting.
"We have enough problems of our own.
"Our tax money isn't being spent on us, and somehow we can afford to put other people up in hotels."
