Executive wants to frame the NIH indirects cut as $4B in savings. But given that NIH returns $2.5 on every $1 investment, this would actually cost US economy a net $6 BILLION (per year!). Not to mention the human costs of wrecking education and research sectors and the communities they serve.

What next? Despite evidence supporting the cost-effectiveness of polypills, no manufacturer has invested the millions of $$$ required to gain FDA approval. Hopefully, this study will signal demand for the cardiovascular polypill to policymakers and manufacturers.

For all trial-eligible non-Hispanic Black adults, polypill treatment was high value ($13,400-per-QALY gained). It also yielded more QALYs and lower ICERs among poorer individuals, suggesting the polypill could cost-effectively reduce income-related health inequalities.
