Why hasn't The Ninth Gate received a bells and whistles release? I've always found the audio on the dvd so low and substandard. One of my top 5 films of all time. #RomanPolananski #JohnnyDepp

I've bought this book 3 times now. The first 2 got lost in the post (honestly) - finally I have a copy! I wrote to Peter just before he died & he replied basically saying 'thanks for your lovely letter, all the answers are in the bio!' Can't wait to dig in 📚 (no diggin' ere!) #PeterVaughan

The 1st ep of Series 2 of Thriller gives us a real treat. A mysterious photo album, a gift of a single white glove, suspicious murders and the gorgeous Hayley Mills! There's something very creepy about this ep. So much so I had to finish it in daylight!

Having a rewatch of 'Wilt' today. 📺 I had a vague memory last night of my parents attending the premiere as my dad had a song featured in the party scene. I love these British 80's films. So much charm. And Mel Smith oozes charisma in every second of his screen time.

I've been obsessed by Enigmarelle since I read about him in Jan Bondeson's @forteantimes column. He was a fake humanoid automaton, he was exhibited as a scientific and technical curiosity around 1905 in the US and Europe. He could write his name, cycle, and other things!

I'm not sure many things sum up folk horror like the Thriller episode 'A Place to Die'. (S1, ep 7) I've seen this a few times, but on this rewatch - it chilled me to the core! A new Dr and his wife move to a small village where the villagers have some very strange beliefs!

defy anyone to watch this ep (Possession) of Thriller alone at night. It is really really unnerving at times. 👻 On my rewatch of the boxset - and 3 eps in, it's both scary and really well acted. I'd forgotten how much I enjoyed it! @MartinMAuthor1 youtu.be/Eyu1YVtklKs?si…

Re-watching 'The Sound Machine' episode of Tales of the Unexpected. I always think there is something of the E.F Benson about this story. It concerns a man who develops a box which amplifies even the tiniest sound -such as roses being cut. A real slice of sunshine horror. ☀️🖤

It’s the 199th anniversary of the ‘Murder in the Red Barn’, which wasn’t discovered for a year, but when it was, the perpetrator was hanged, skinned, and used to bind a book... 🧵

Such a shame there isn't a real Christmas special for Early Doors or This Country. They'd be staple episodes for so many. Is it too early to watch the Steptoe xmas specials? When they make the punch in the po - it's officially xmas! 🎄🎅

A rich vein of Folk Horror ran all the way through WORZEL GUMMIDGE (1979). And one of its most horrific characters was Worzel's own creation: Dafthead!

My auntie's house in the 70's, Gwendoline St, Liverpool. She painted it herself with help from my uncle & dad. It was known locally as the 'flower power house'. She also set up a boutique from inside the house which was famous globally. 🌸🌼

My grandad died on 5th Nov 1979, 2 weeks before I was born. He was an immigrant from Bengal and came to the UK after serving in the Merchant Navy. He set up a lot of businesses & became a well respected member of the Toxteth community. 🖤 Pic shows him locking up his coal yard.

My fave detail in the city centre. This little porthole style detail above a doorway on Berry St. I look for it everytime I pass, just to make sure it's still there. 🪟 Little remnants like this make my heart sing. #Liverpool

One Foot in the Grave really does get better with (my) age. Just like Larry David, Victor says all the right things but with absolutely no tact. And it's wonderful. I always feel so sad coming to the last ep in a rewatch. It's such a joy. 🐢

Last day of #31daysofgraves . A vault burial in St Patrick's Church, Liverpool. Sadly didn't get to peek inside but just standing outside Peter Roberts vault felt eerie enough. He died in 1828.

Probably my fave name I've come across on a gravestone - Horatio Ruffley Roberts. It even has a little carving of him, which is just so charming. Another gem from St James' Cemetery. #31daysofgraves 🪦

Joseph William Leyland, a baby, buried at Toxteth Park Cemetery in 1863. His father Joseph is listed as a naturalist. (Is it me or has the second 'A' in 'naturalist been corrected?) Caroline, is also buried here. But no Joseph Sr. Maybe he's still alive! 🪦🖤 #31daysofgraves

I love the Victorian tradition of writing every known fact about the deceased on their gravestone. This one from Toxteth Park Cemetery is no exception. Plus the urn on top is just sublime. It blows my mind that sculpture has lasted 140 years! 🪦🖤⚱️ #31daysofgraves
