I'm hitting the shops with these bad boys to see if anyone wants to stock them! Not sure how to price them, so what would you pay for a hand-printed original ghost print?

I'm itching to do something bold and unapologetically creative, so I'm tempted to found a publisher to give authors a space for manuscripts 'big' publishers consider too out-there, uncategorisable, or otherwise unpalatable. What sort of books would people like to write or see? Do I do it??

For a painting I kind of hated during most of the process, I'm pleased with how it turned out
A hand holding a rectangular ink and watercolour pastel painting of a cozy kitchen scene. In the painting, a smiling woman with dark hair tied in a messy top knot sits at a wooden kitchen counter. She wears a yellow t-shirt and striped blue pyjama shorts while preparing breakfast. On the counter in front of here are two plate, one with scrambled eggs and bacon, the other with a slice of bread. Next to them is a mug. In the background, dark wood shelves hold glass jars, bottles and containers. There is a stove with a frying pan, a vine running down a window frame, and a refrigerator decorated with magnets and prints.

How having a disability became cool
Young women, nicknamed ‘sickfluencers’, are turning chronic illness into a lifestyle trend and entrenching a culture of economic inactivity

Young women are also more likely to get caught up in “social contagion” – the spontaneous spread of behaviours or emotions previously observed by sociologists in “outbreaks” of bulimia, self-harm and transgender ideology. What may have otherwise been transitory feelings are seized upon and obsessed over until they form a central pillar of a person’s identity. A chronic-illness influencer won’t want to get “better” any more than a female-bodied transgender person would want to re-identify with their sex.

I wasn't great at painting or drawing until I got into lino and started focussing on light, not shapes. So now, when I start to paint, I get worried I've forgotten how again, which leads to a happy surprise when it works out. I really like the light in this one!
An ink and watercolour pastel painting of a cozy, sunlit kitchen. In it, a woman with brown hair in a loose bun, glasses and a long pink robe, stands at an old-fashioned stove. She is stirring food in a reddish-brown pot, with soft white steam rising up toward the wooden kitchen cabinets above. A bright window with horizontal blinds casts a glow across a counter filled with kitchen utensils, a moka pot, and spice jars. The counter extends around to the foreground, crowded with random jars, bottles and condiments, framing the scene.

The painting is on a green cutting mat. There are art supplies on the left next to it.

A whole main road in Edinburgh got shut down yesterday because of a "chemical spill". A brief foray in the Other Place shows that this was likely the result of terfs being weird about a duct-tape trans flag on a lamppost... What a time to be alive.
A tweet with an attached imag depicting a lamppost wrapped in coloured tape in the colours of the trans flag. The lamppost is located on Morningside Road, near Maxwell Street in Edinburgh.

Yesterday, an emergency response (including police, ambulances, and fire crews) cordoned off the street. The response was triggered by reports of an "unknown substance" found on this lamppost.

The tweet text reads: "Not sure if this lamppost was involved with the major incident today, but video online shows tape was gone, yet two hours later, it's back @edinhelp If this was linked to the earlier incident, this is a serious escalation, and a blatant two fingers up to the emergency services."
A reply by @EdinFeminists reads: "@edinhelp Can you arrange from the tape (corner of Maxwell St/Morningside Road) to be removed. Again, please? Thanks you."
A screenshot of a Twitter thread.

At the top, a post from @EdinFeminists tags @edinhelp to report vandalism on a central lamppost opposite the corner of Maxwell St and Hermitage Terrace, asking for it to be removed. The post includes a small thumbnail image of a lamppost on a street corner.

Below this, a reply from @GidontcareG dated August 18 says she reported the same issue a couple of days prior. She describes the act as a "criminal man" obsessively "marking his territory" in an "aggressive manly way" because "he's not getting the message."

At the bottom, an embedded post from the same user dated August 16 tags @edinhelp to report that various lampposts at the bottom of Morningside have been targeted with blue, pink, and white tape. The user praises the council for prompt removals in the past but notes that the 'vandal' seems determined.

I'm visiting for the weekend, and still obsessed with my mum's book shelf: one of these books is not like the others...
An eye-level shot of a wooden bookshelf filled with books stacked both vertically and horizontally.
On the left, a thick, white-spined book titled La Vérité sur l'Affaire Harry Quebert by Joël Dicker lies horizontally under a blue book titled Rembrandt et la Bible, and above Perspective(s) by Laurent Binet. On the right, a vertical stack includes titles such as The Colour of Memory by Geoff Dyer and W ou le souvenir d'enfance by George Perec. The books are all literary and have muted covers apart from her beloved copy of renowned trans thriller Welcome to Dorley Hall by Alyson Greaves, which has pride of place on the centre of the shelf.

A black and white linocut depicting a classic sheet ghost with two small black eyeholes sitting on the edge of a bed, and facing a second empty bed in a derelict hotel room. To the left, a window features long, draped curtains. The beds have dark bedding, and are separated by a bedside table. A framed picture of a deer among bare trees hangs on the wall above the headboard. Leafy ferns and plants frame the bottom of the composition.

What the fuck. Teachers are overburdened already, and this is incredibly dependent on individual teachers' prejudices re: class, ableism, race and other socio-economic factors. If the job market is so dire kids currently in nursery are affected, we need to address the role of employment in society

My parents are getting the attic fixed and they found this old bottle of wine in the eaves...On further investigation, apparently in the late 1800s there, it was superstition when building new houses to make an offering to the house (wine, whisky, salt, or coal) Of course they must return it, right?

I’m a trans woman in my forties. Growing up without social media—and during Section 28—I knew nothing about transness and I knew no-one like me. I almost didn’t make it; I dread to think how many didn’t. You can’t tell me that returning to this state is not an intended effect of this proposed ban.
