All I can say is no. And the reason is, in part, because I want to read something coming from a particular mind.” Using A.I., he said, “feels like a betrayal of the whole point of why you’re a writer.”

Something unexpected happened when I started using AI in my job search. Talking out loud to an LLM about jobs I had years ago, I started remembering projects and problems I'd solved. Most of it was already on my CV, but I'd made all of it much smaller than it actually was.

Berliners voted in 2021 to take flats off big landlords. A commission found it legal in 2023. And the party that just won the Berlin election says it'll actually do it. Now Merz is fast-tracking a national ban to stop it. The thing Berliners voted for, blocked before it can happen.

The AfD asked the German government to prove immigration drags wages down. The data came back and showed the opposite of what they wanted. Foreign workers earn about €1,038 a month less, but the real story is access to better-paid work, not the clap-back the far right was hoping for.

In lighter things, I could not find my cat Domi on Sunday morning. He usually wakes me up. He'd opened one of the kitchen drawers, climbed in the gap between that and the drawer beneath, and then got himself stuck. Oddly, he just chilled out there and patiently waited for me to free him. 😆

If your tech job search feels harder than it should right now, it is not you. IT and engineering unemployment in Germany is at its highest since records began in 2011, and computer science openings fell 33% in a single year. Tech isn't shrinking so much as re-sorting itself around AI.
