Quote from Dr. Marc Hafstead, Carbon Pricing Fellow at Resources for the Future and Director of RFF's Carbon Pricing Initiative. Quote: "It's reasonable to say that carbon pricing is, with a few exceptions, the most cost-effective way of reducing emissions, especially at a moderate to large scale."

How Renewable Energy Projects In Jaisalmer Impact Women, Livestock & Livelihoods
Jaisalmer, Rajasthan: On a hot summer evening, Jora Ram Devasi (74) walks across the barren Oran near his home in Achla village in Rajasthan’s Jaisalmer district, where his camels are grazing. Orans are community-conserved sacred forests that have sustained desert villages for centuries, providing pasture, food, water and shelter for wildlife. As he reaches the grazing ground, he looks up at the tall wind turbines spread across miles of the landscape. “There was a time when the land had no borders, no fencing… just long stretches of golden land with bushes, shrubs and herb trees. Now it’s all factories, and our land, our home, is just a drop in the ocean,” he said, arranging fodder for the 15-20 camel calves around him. “One could once walk to Bikaner, Jodhpur or Barmer through the Orans. We walked for three or four days with camels to trade, crossing one region after another. The land was open for all, with no restrictions.” Achla falls within the Degrai Oran, is about 625 years old, and is one of roughly 25,000 Orans across Rajasthan. It is also among the largest, spanning nearly 60,000 bighas (more than 37,000 acres), and is worshipped by around 24 villages...

Californians, pay attention: The Colorado River is drying up at its headwaters
See more from the L.A. Times in Google Search. Set us as preferred The mighty Colorado River — that carved the Grand Canyon and was dammed by the epic Hoover Dam — is in big trouble. The long-overused river, a major water source for millions of people in California and six other states, has shrunk dramatically since 2000 due to a megadrought in the western U.S. that scientists say was probably the most severe in 1,200 years. The conditions are only being intensified by climate change. You're reading the Essential California newsletter Sign up to start every day with California's most important stories.
